Fresnaye Bowling CLUB

We are holding our AGM at the Club on Sunday 4t August 2024 - 1030 for 1100. All welcome to attend - whether you are already a Bowler, or thinking of trying. From 1300 we shall be holding a Bring and Braai. From 1430 Members, and those wanting to try Bowls will be able to play.

For those of you out there who might be interested in trying Bowls - on Sunday 21st April we are holding a Fun Bowls afternoon from 1400. We already have about 40 people anting to play - so we do not have much room to fit in any more - but, if you want to see how a game is played, or maybe want to meet some of our fantastic Members, have a drink, or maybe something to eat - we are at 15 Avenue St Bartholomew Fresnaye. Or just come and admire the view. The recent storm devastated part of our clubhouse - but the weather forecast seems good enough to sit outside.

For those who would like to try Bowls before buying, we start our Fresnaye Fun Bowls afternoons from Sunday 27th August - individuals or Groups wanting to play please post or Whats App Dick Russell on 0722304077. Those who are of the competitive persuasion - we start our Wednesday Afternoon Trips Competition on 23rd August - we already have 10 teams and are looking for our final two. We are starting our popular Tuesday Morning League on 24th October - again. if some of you would like to put a Trips team together - let me know.

Those of you who live in Cape Town, must be wondering what is happening with our weather - the way things are going - our dams are going to be full by the end of June - which hopefully means that we have enough water for quite a while. Although there is talk of "El Nino" and possible drought conditions - we must just be careful with our water!
The weather has not helped with our opportunities to play Tabs - Social Bowls -but we have been soldiering on, through cold and breezy conditions and have been having some very enjoyable Bowls. While our Membership has picked up very well from the dark days of Covid - there is always space for more! We really would like to see some more younger people from the Atlantic Suburbs area, taking to Bowls. Particularly those who have packed their primary sport - Cricket, Rugby, Soccer, Hockey, Netball etc and would still like to be involved in a team game, in a club situation.
We offer Coaching and assistance - at no cost - all we would like is your commitment. Once you have played for a short while - there will be some of you looking for competitive play - this is something we can offer, both internally and externally.
Our Fresnaye Sports Club has a fully equipped Bar, and we also cater for coffees, toasties, and bigger snacks.
We pride ourselves in been one of the most fantastic settings for a Bowling Club in SA.

We are now entering that time of the year when people are wondering what to do with their pleasure/ sporting time. It is Autumn - so the weather is cooler, but nice enough to enjoy playing some Bowls. For those who have not succumbed to playing Bowls already - we have a Fun Bowls afternoon on Sunday 23rd April - from 1400 onwards - this will give you a chance to try out Bowls in a relaxed atmosphere. Individuals or groups are welcome to take part - at no charge! We play Bowls until about 1700, and then relax with a cold one and have a chat for as long as you like. Our caterers will serve you a Braai plate at around 1800 to feed the inner man (or woman!). This will cost R100-00 for those wishing to eat. For those who might be thinking of starting Bowls, or just want to see what it is all about - we are holding a Fun Bowls afternoon on Sunday 8th January 2023 starting around 1400, with play until about 1700 - at no charge! We shall try and place those playing with others of similar experience, and we shall also give assistance to new Bowlers during the afternoon. After Bowls you are welcome to join us for a thirst-quencher and a relaxing chat next to the Green. For those who would like something more solid after their game, we shall be offering a braai plate, chips and salads - at a cost of R100-00. For those who are looking for a Trips Competition that is fairly competitive as well as fun and enjoyable - our Fresnaye CPOA Tuesday Morning League starts on 25th October. Unfortunately it is mornings only, so might not suit those out there that are working. With a full field of 12 teams, you will play every other team, which means that the competition starts soon, takes a Christmas break, and finishes in February 2023. The long period of the Competition might not suit everybody - but in return, we do make sure that every team wins a prize. Entry fee is R60-00 per player, per week, and includes your mid-morning Tea and sandwiches. Contact Dick Russell for more details. Although start day is a month off, I would like to finalise entries soon. First come, first served.

Entries invited for our Twilight Trips 0n 9th October - enter early only 12 spots available. If you cant make this one, we shall do it again on 11th December.

There is another Quiz Night coming up - Wednesday 27th July at 1900. Teams of no more than six people - entry fee R250-00 per team. Those wishing to order food, as well, please let me know so
that I can pass it on.
