Welcome to the False Bay Underwater Club (FBUC)! The club has been going for over 75 years, and we are proud to say that it’s the oldest diving club in South Africa, and one of the oldest in the world. All divers, prospective divers and retired divers are welcome to drop by on any Wednesday evening for a drink, a chat and an air fill (free for members). The clubhouse is open every Wednesday night

Last night we had a fascinating evening with fellow FBUC member Dr Ken Findlay, sharing hands-on insights into whale species, the history of whaling, modern whale research, and the vital role science plays in monitoring and supporting the recovery of these once severely threatened animals.

We also learned how everyday ocean users can now contribute valuable observations to ongoing research, helping protect and better understand our oceans and the incredible creatures that call them home.

Thank you Dr Findlay for a fantastic talk!

You never really know what you’re going to see on a dive in Cape Town. One day it’s calm and quiet, the next it’s dolphins everywhere and you’re just trying to take it all in. Moments like this are why we keep getting back in the water.

Jeff’s Box at Long Beach, a bit of a hidden gem that is not often explored. Sitting at around 10m, it is a steel box structure that rests on the sandy bottom just offshore, forming a simple but interesting artificial reef within the bay.
It is a relaxed, shallow dive that makes it easy to slow down and really take in the surroundings. At this depth, there is plenty of time to explore the structure, look closely at how marine life uses the metal surfaces for shelter, and notice the small details that develop over time on submerged structures.
