An era has come to an end in Russian rhythmic gymnastics: Irina Viner is stepping down from her position as the head coach of the national RG team. She held this position since 2001.

"Rhythmic gymnastics is my life, and I am happy that I was able to make my contribution to the development of this wonderful sport. Nevertheless, I have decided to resign my post as the head coach of the Russian national RG team" – Viner is quoted by TASS news agency.

The 76 year-old Viner – one of the most successful head coaches in the sport's history – promised to pass on her accumulated experience to other coaches. Viner was also the president of the Russian RG Federation from 2008-2024, but resigned last autumn, when the gymnastics federations of Russia united.
