A-Okay šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

Without being able to talk underwater, just yet, us freedivers have to find some ways around this limitation.
You would be surprised at the sometimes creative means of non verbal communication we get up to, sub surface.

Hand signals, hopefully not a pointed hand behind the head (🦈), facial expressions, underwater dance moves; they all mean something different!

Happy freediving! Be safe, connect, and enjoy.

Nursery ground.

The Capes kelp forests act as more than just an intertidal buffer between open ocean and the shoreline.

As seen here, many species of fish and other marine animals use the kelp forests as a protective barrier between them and open water. For a small fish, open water means exposure, and the tightly woven kelp beds counteract that. Aside from this, many species reside here when they are young, as this safety blanket makes it harder for predatory species to get an easy meal!

Safe for them, exciting for us, it’s truly a wonder! šŸ’™

Surface time.

Between dives we spend our time up here. Unlike scuba divers, we spend most of our time in this space: prepping for our one-breath adventures below.

ā€œDid you see that!ā€, ā€œcome follow meā€, ā€œbreathe, just breatheā€, ā€œI can’t believe my eyesā€; we can’t talk underwater just yet, but we certainly find our ways around it.

Happy freediving! Be safe, connect, and enjoy.

Down we go!

Sometimes it’s a bit of a squeeze, a shimmy between stipes, a duck and roll… but it’s all worth it in the end!

Under the thick canopy of kelp lie open channels, wide spaces filled with sea life. The best way to explore them is to, well, try find them first!

Come explore for yourself!

Through the looking glass…

Swimming through the kelp forest is like uncovering a hidden world. Just below the surface lies an unsuspecting ecosystem that will change how you see the sea.

Dark and gloomy coastlines turn into mystical groves of kelp and light, illuminating what you once thought impossible.

Come and see for yourself! šŸ’™

Hello friend šŸ™

It’s always a treat to see our octopus friends out of their dens. Normally these inquisitive creatures say hello from the safety of their rocks caves, with an arm extended to see what’s what.

But when the opportunity arises and their curiosity heightens; sometimes we’re able to take a closer look!

Kelp forest calmness.

Feeling blue about the week ahead? Here’s some peace and stillness, a moment to appreciate and remember what lies waiting.

With busy schedules and day to day stresses, it’s easy to forget about the things that bring us back to ourselves. For many of us, it’s a trip underwater. A chance to step outside of your life, and into a new world.

The forest sways on, and your time to return will come again šŸ’™
