Another beautiful day exploring the Great African Seaforest with the whole family! 🌿🌊🐠

There’s something special about sharing the underwater world with family, watching curiosity turn into excitement as we drift through swaying kelp fronds and discover the incredible marine life hidden beneath the surface.

And then came the highlight of the day… 🦈✨

A pyjama shark sighting! Striped, beautifully camouflaged and wonderfully at home on the reef, this little local resident was the perfect finale to an unforgettable family snorkelling adventure.

These are the moments that turn an ordinary day into a lifelong memory. ❤️

Some experiences are simply better shared. 🌿🌊

From dropping down beside each other through the kelp, to drifting over reefs and watching fish move between the fronds, these two spent the session exploring Cape Town’s coastline side by side.

And then came the moment neither of them could have planned for: an African penguin cruising past underwater. 🐧

That is one of the things we love about freediving here. You may enter the water together with a plan, but the ocean decides what becomes the story you take home.

Weekend dives. 🌊🌿
We spent two days with two fantastic students on our Adventure Freediver I course, building skills, confidence and knowledge, before heading into the ocean for our open-water dives.

Aside from the important skills, we encountered many beautiful Compass Jellyfish.

A very special visitor joined this snorkelling experience. 🐧🌊
Seeing an African penguin from the shore is one thing. Having one suddenly glide past you underwater in the kelp forest is something else entirely.
Penguins are not a sighting we can ever promise on our snorkelling experiences, which makes encounters like this especially memorable. For a few seconds, our snorkellers got to share the water with one of Cape Town’s most iconic marine animals, moving through its world rather than watching from a distance.
Definitely one of those “did that just happen?” moments. 💙

Another brilliant weekend in the kelp forest. 🌿🌊
This snorkeling experience delivered a particularly good mix of sightings, including cuttlefish, Red Roman, puffadder shysharks, and compass jellyfish that had clearly become part of the menu, with fish feeding on them and bite marks visible around their bells.
And then there were the familiar residents that make this ecosystem so rich: anemones, urchins, sea stars, reef fish and all the smaller life tucked into the rocks and kelp.
Every visit to the Great African Seaforest is different. Sometimes it is the big encounters that steal the show, and sometimes it is simply noticing how much life is packed into every corner. 🐟🌿

One of several beautiful snorkelling experiences we enjoyed in Cape Town’s kelp forests this week. 🌊🌿
Khanyisile and Henri joined us for a morning of exploring the Great African Seaforest, with clear water, sunshine and plenty of marine life along the way.
Schools of fish moved through the kelp, while colourful urchins, crabs and smaller creatures kept appearing among the rocks. There is always something new to notice when you slow down and really look.

What a weekend. 🌊🌿
We spent two days with two fantastic students on our Adventure Freediver I course, building skills, confidence and knowledge, before heading into the kelp forest for our open-water dives.
The ocean delivered too, with an encounter with a beautiful short-tailed stingray and, apparently, half of Cape Town’s scuba diving population. 🤿😄
A brilliant course and a great day underwater to finish it off.

Cape Town really showed off today. 🌊☀️
We took this lovely group out into the kelp forest and were treated to beautiful conditions, clear water, shafts of sunlight, and plenty of marine life weaving through the kelp.
Days like this are a reminder of just how extraordinary the Great African Seaforest can be. One minute you’re floating above a quiet sandy patch, the next you’re surrounded by fish and towering kelp.

Exploring open spaces, taking in the deep blue.

Freediving is one of those things that allows not only for connection to oneself, but connection to the environment around you. We navigate the world through relative disconnect, as routine activities and day-to-day lifestyle distract from the wonder around us. Eventually, we stop noticing.

This all changes with a plunge into icy water, and a dramatic shift in environment. We get pulled back in. Back into ourselves, and back into the world.

Take our word for it; you will leave feeling better for it 🩵
