Won’t lie, that was hard as heck but I did it! And I’m so stoked. The most massive thank you to all of you who cheered from the sidelines. The incredible people I ran with. A massive shout out to and

Sometimes when I train, my diabetes likes to remind me that I’m still T1 Diabetic, today was one of those days.
Training for endurance sport, be it running, cycling or swimming, is fun but tough, throw in T1 Diabetes to the mix and some days it can be one heck of an adventure.
I can do everything right and my glucose levels can be too high or too low, everything plays a part of this fine balancing act. Today from the halfway point of my last long run before next week, I just couldn’t seem to keep my glucose levels up.
Two pit stops, a gel, a coke and a sprite later - I managed to finish my run. Was a humbling reminder that I have an extra thing to be vigilant about when doing the things I love to do.
Considering the old days before synthetic insulin when diabetics were kept still and had a short life expectancy, I am beyond blessed to be able to live such a full life! I’ve been T1 since I was 8 years old!
What better way to celebrate a major achievement then go cycling along one of the most beautiful routes in Cape Town with a group of cyclists and new friends.
We even saw dolphins on the way back!!
To many more kilometres on two wheels, long coffees, fresh croissants and lots of laughter and adventures!

There was a time my body hurt for very different reasons.
Not from training. Not from discipline. But from withdrawal, sleepless nights, hangovers… and the chaos of addiction.
There was a time I felt completely lost. Afraid. Abandoned. Exhausted by life itself. I truly believed I wouldn’t make it very far, and honestly, I wasn’t sure I wanted to.
On 16 May 2010, by grace and through the kindness of strangers who loved me enough to tell me the truth of my condition, I got sober from he**in and alcohol. They showed me there was another way to live — a life of freedom.
The journey since then hasn’t been easy. Recovery asked me to face myself fully. To live by spiritual principles. To take accountability. To walk through fear, loss, grief, and the consequences of my actions.
But somewhere along the way, I found a hunger for life again. A love for movement. For people. For animals. For growth. For becoming someone I could finally respect.
Today, my life looks nothing like the one I imagined back then. It’s filled with connection, purpose, love, compassion and joy — things I once thought belonged to other people, not me.
16 years sober. A deeply heartfelt thank you to every person who walked beside me, held hope for me, challenged me, guided me, and showed me how to heal, love and live.
I would not be here without you.
