Community sport doesn’t run on facilities or schedules.
It runs on people who volunteer to step forward.
Being on a club committee — chair, treasurer, secretary, scheduler, sponsorship lead — is one of the most meaningful ways to give back to sport.
But these volunteers shouldn’t just be relied upon.
They should be valued and supported.
Simple things can make a difference:
• Provide club-branded clothing so they feel part of the team
• Invest in training to help them succeed in their roles
• Encourage knowledge transfer to the next volunteer
• Capture what was learned so the next person starts ahead
When volunteers feel supported, clubs become stronger, more sustainable, and better for everyone.
Community sport grows when we invest in the people who make it possible. - Paul W. J. Hunter

Community sport doesn’t run on its own.
Behind every practice, game, and tournament are volunteers doing the work that keeps sport alive.
Chair.
Secretary.
Treasurer.
Scheduler.
Sponsorship lead.
These operational roles are often invisible, but they are absolutely critical.
Without them, there are no teams, no leagues, no programs.
But as community sport grows, another role becomes increasingly valuable: sports development.
Someone who understands how sport grows.
How participants stay engaged.
How programs evolve for different ages and stages.
Not every board will have a sport development expert — but having someone with that perspective, or a willingness to learn, can make a real difference.
Strong governance keeps organizations running.
Sport development helps them grow.
Both matter if we want sport to thrive in our communities. - "Paul W. J. Hunter"
