2026 is the first time since starting Alpha Longboards & Alpha Skates Skateshop in 2001 that I decided to take a break from boardshaping for most of the year. It’s been a slog the last decade or so with global economic and social fluctuations, and ultimately had to start enjoying it again. Less boardshaping meant more skating for me, more focus on ALPHA SKATES SHOP, and also more focused time with Alba Lingeveldt and her skating needs for her fun progression.
I’ll be back at it again soon and excited about approaching the process and the work/life balance differently.
Our customers deserve boards made with care and proper headspace.

As anticipated, our foot traffic dynamic has changed since we opted to move out of our on-street walk-in retail store to a skate shop/skate studio style space in an older retro building on the other end of the city in a bid to adapt to drastically changing retail landscape for skate stores globally, but also to actually skate more.
This change has understandably been felt mainly on our Saturday trade because (a) this part of the city is quiet on weekends, and (b) the building only has entrance security/doorperson Mon-Fri, so it’s not just a walk-in situation.
No stress though it’s not a complicated situation though. I have and will continue to let you know that calling or WhatsApp messaging beforehand at +27725173156, and during shop hours, 10:30-14:30 Monday to Friday, and 10:30-13:00 on Saturdays will have us respond to you in a bid to make sure that we are available to service your skateboarding needs.
And finally, a huge THANK YOU to everyone, locally and international customers, who have continued their support and expressed a complete love of the new and more intimate space.
