Ground Up Sports Promotion marked a defining moment in South African boxing last month, delivering a historic event that produced multiple national and international milestones for the organisation and its athletes.

The tournament featured Title bouts, amateur contests, career-defining performances, and groundbreaking achievements across both men’s and women’s boxing, further cementing the promotion’s growing influence in the sport.

Ground Up Sports Promotion proudly confirms the following achievements from the event:
* The organisation hosted its first-ever farewell bout for a retiring professional boxer.
* The promotion gained its first World Champion.
* The promotion gained its first Youth World Champion.
* The promotion gained its first Female International Champion.

The event also delivered significant milestones for boxing in South Africa:
* South Africa hosted its first WBC female international bantamweight title fight featuring an all-female officiating panel.
* The country crowned its first female WBC champion.
* South Africa produced its first WBC International Bantamweight champion.

For the Eastern Cape:
* The Eastern Cape produced its first female WBC champion.
* The Eastern Cape crowned its first WBC Youth Champion.
* The Eastern Cape crowned another world champion in the mini-flyweight division.
* Veteran boxer Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni competed in his final professional bout, bringing his career full circle in the province where it began.

Ground Up Sports Promotion confirms the withdrawal of boxer Sanele Msimang from the upcoming tournament scheduled to take place at Jan Smuts Stadium in Arcadia, East London, on 23 May 2026.

While the matter became public in a manner not consistent with professional boxing protocols, Ground Up Sports Promotion wishes to place on record that official correspondence was received from a medical facility confirming injuries sustained by the boxer on 14 May 2026.

Ground Up Sports Promotion further confirms that Chumani Sgadla Thunzi has officially been secured as the replacement opponent for Nomeva, subject to all regulatory approvals and promotional processes. The replacement boxer holds a professional record of eight wins and two losses and first entered the professional boxing ranks in 2017.

The event will feature world-class boxing action, alongside live music performances, entertainment activations, food vendors, and cultural experiences designed to unite fans from across the country.
