New month, new level 3️⃣, new Season ❄️ , new email 💻address ([email protected]) and an opportunity to start with a clean training slate 🏋️♀️.
—
With regards to the training (or life 🤔) slate, I found mine filled up in overflow the past month. The presented itself with such tempting offers in terms of training programs and info. There is such amazing info out there such as .co - all these guys offer phenomenal work and I HIGHLY recommend each of them.
—
As I state that I am my own experiment, I decided to give the WHOLE lot a shot, against my wife’s advice and against my better judgement. Needless to say I got completely overwhelmed. I become stronger, fitter and more skilled as well, but for me the price is to high if my training becomes a stressor. And that I am the cause of it NOT a program.
—
So now I take the most important aspects that I learnt, and I am cleaning my slate, looking to perhaps choose ONE program and stick with it - as my friend says, ANY program works as long as you follow it. And I also was reminded by my brother that I know enough to train under my own guidance.
—
And thus I revert back to my ease and flow affirmations:
1) Listen to your wife ☝️😆
2) Be honest with yourself (know what works for you and what DOESN’T - (this you learn through experimenting (as above) not easy, but hugely enlightening)
3) Accept that you can’t do everything 🤦♂️
4)Do what you WANT to do and not what you think you HAVE to do
5) Less is more 👍
6) Keep.It.Simple
7) Enjoy yourself!
And as a matter of fact this is what promotes and for good reason. Ease and flow.
—
How is your training going? Is there flow and ease? If you’d like to chat about it give me a shout, I’ve been on both ends of the spectrum and will gladly share my insights and perhaps guide you further.

With a 6-9 am allowance to get outside in your immediate area it’s amazing to see so many people putting on their running shoes and hitting their stride. I love my running and do the same as much as I can. I’ve been walking barefoot (obviously) during most of the and actually had a think about the shoes that I own and the stories they could tell.
—
First up my feet. I have asked a lot from them and I believe that my efforts to go as much as possible and my choice in footwear has not only kept them happy, but my kinetic chain from the ground as well. I thank my feet evertime I can stand on them with confidence and without pain.
—
Next up Primus trail. I live in this shoe. Its my second pair of ‘s. If I was FORCED to choose ONE shoe (pair) to do it all from , this is it!
—
Lumo green with more miles than I can think of. This One V3 was upacked and straight up tested in the run leg of the 70.3 in Bufallo City. Then Durban. Then the marathon. It also ran the . Not to mention the training for all of those. I am yet to loose a toenail or get a blister. Fact. This shoe as my primary road running shoe has suited me so well that I even refused a new pair ( but different model) that my wife wanted to gift me - I said I’ll wait for the new model of THAT shoe.
—
The mountain goat Superior. Covered 44 km, Jonkershoek, Helderberg and many others. No foot bruises, no slips, just some good old fashion mountain wear and tear and shin grazes.
—
Lastly, the ‘walk on water’ leisure shoe, because my wife begged me to put shoes on when we go out for dinner.
—
Interestingly, I haven’t retied any of these laces since I bought these shoes. I slip all shoes on and off, even the trail shoe. It just affirms that you should protect your feet, but let them be free to move as they should.

Fellow coach .andrew.davies and I were discussing various effects (pros and cons) of HI training during this time and he reminded me of an article in my honours year that stated similar evidence to the snippet I posted here. So as a reminder to myself and others - train to BUILD and NOT TO BREAK - in general and particularly in this time. Your primary training focus should be to making your living organism (body mind an spirit) as resilient as possible and as far as I’m concerned physical exercise and training is one, if not the best, way to achieve this. You need to consider your current conscious and subconscious circumstantial stressors and train at an intensity that is befitting of your current state. Honour yourself by breaking a solid sweat whenever you feel like it, but I would not advise punishing yourself to physical exhaustion on a daily basis. You will know when its the right time to do a proper ripper of a workout (In my opinion 1-2 times every 10 days MAX) . For now I would focus on moving most days, getting a sweat on and on being grateful of having the capacity to do so.
