Renosterkop Rally ‘R’ — Event Report 🏁
The Renosterkop Rally ‘R’ delivered a demanding day of 400+kms adventure riding, endurance and Dakar-inspired navigation across the Gauteng and Limpopo bushveld.
Although it was one of our smallest fields in recent years, the quality of riding and navigation was excellent. Most importantly, the event was completed without any medical incidents or mechanical recoveries.
Riders competed in two separate navigation classes: digital Roadbook and GPX track navigation.
In the GPX class, Marius delivered a fast, clean and accurate run. Wynand completed his first Rampage One Day Challenge and put in a strong performance. We hope to see him taking on the digital roadbook class at a future event.
The digital roadbook class produced a close contest:
🥇 Mark Menton
🥈 Cooper Menton
🥉 Ruben Beetge
Mark and Cooper delivered a disciplined team ride, collecting their waypoints and avoiding penalties. Ruben finished close behind despite a missed waypoint, speed penalties and losing approximately 15 minutes after going off track during Stage 3. His recovery was excellent.
Angelo started later than the field but rode strongly to make up time. Morag worked through navigation challenges during Stage 1 and successfully recovered to reach Moloto before returning to the finish. Marnard’s day ended early after a fuel-related mechanical problem.
Rampage results are based on more than speed. Navigation accuracy, waypoint collection, speed-zone compliance and penalties all contribute to each rider’s final position. Stage scores from each One Day Challenge also count towards the annual Rampage Championship.

The Renosterkop Rally ‘R’ once again proved what a Rampage event is about: long-distance adventure riding, accurate navigation, endurance and the satisfaction of completing a proper rally-style challenge.
Well done to every rider who took part. 🏍️💨

🏍️ WHAT IS A RAMPAGE RALLY?
If you've ever watched Dakar and thought "I want a piece of that" — Rampage is your answer.
A Rampage Rally is a rally raid experience built for confident adventure bike riders. Not a race. Not a trail ride. A proper navigation and endurance challenge that pushes you, your bike, and your fitness through some of the best off-road terrain in South Africa.
The secret weapon? Your Android device.
One rugged Android phone or tracker is all you need to navigate like a real rally rider — digital roadbook, GPX trails, waypoints, speed zones, staged starts and penalties. All on the RBR app. No Garmin. No Apple. Just your Android, your bike, and your wits.
But make no mistake — distance and navigation alone will sort the men from the boys.
Our upcoming event, the Renosterkop Rally 'R', is a One-Day Challenge (ODC). One day. One route. Everything you've got.
🔴 Red Route: 300+ km of off-road adventure across two stages.
⚫ Black Route: 400+ km across three stages — non-stop riding, navigation and endurance from first light to finish.
This is not for beginners. This is for riders who are ready for more.

🏁 RAMPAGE ODC STAMPEDE RALLY 'R' RERUN 🏁
Following the very successful Rampage ODC Gauteng Stampede Rally 'R' on 30 May, we held a small rerun yesterday (4 July).
After my head-on car accident on the way to the original event, a few entrants unfortunately turned back after seeing an early cancellation message before it was corrected. The rerun gave those riders, together with our recce team and some new riders, the opportunity to experience the route.
The same 300km route once again delivered a fantastic day of riding. It was technical, rocky, had virtually no sand, and demanded constant navigation and concentration.
🏍️ 18 entrants
✅ 16 riders finished
Unfortunately Jaycen had a very unlucky fall, resulting in broken ribs together with wrist and shoulder injuries. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Andy rode brilliantly on his KTM 990 in his first Rampage ODC, but had an off over a new unforeseen bump in the road. Fortunately he is okay, although the bike suffered some damage.
Alexandre Torrao from Dad2dakar, a regular at Rampage ODC events, had to retire his Triumph early after a clutch failure. We know he'll be back soon.
Once again the Rally Rampage spirit was on full display, with riders helping one another while still keeping a keen eye on their navigation, waypoints and penalties.
A fantastic day all round. 👊📸

🏁 GAUTENG STAMPEDE 'R' — ODC 14 - DONE AND DUSTED🏁
What a day.
The event started somewhat dramatic with myself being in a head-on accident on the way to the start. There was some confusion after a cancellation message was posted, but the message from the riders was clear — they wanted to ride.
Joey and Alexandre took over the start and briefing, and the guys set off. As always, the ODC veterans showed how rally works, and Mark stepped in to provide route support and quickly got onto it.
The day went splendid — no real mechanical issues and no medical incidents.
18 riders took on the route:
📱 3 navigating GPX on the RBR app
🧭 14 navigating Digital Roadbook
Unfortunately we had 5 cancellations due to medical (mostly flu), and 2 riders who turned back after the cancellation post and missed out. We will make arrangements for them to still ride the route.
The route ran from Mnandi in an anti-clockwise loop around Breedtsnek — mostly off-road, technical, and non-stop riding and navigation for a solid 6–8 hours.
I joined the group at the finish after a trip to the hospital post the car crash, and watched riders come in after a proper day out — riding hard sections and navigating like champions.
Special mention to Angelo and Ruben — both helped at the accident scene early morning, joined the route nearly 2 hours late, and still rode onto the podium for their accuracy.
Reminder:
These are not races.
Speed is not rewarded — consistency, navigation, and accuracy is key.
You can ride within the speed limit and still be ahead.
🏆 *ROADBOOK PODIUM*

🥈 Pieter Naude — Husqvarna 701
