Home of hip hop world champions. SA's Got Talent winners (2016).
Kryptonite began as a small street crew with big dreams. That crew became the first African dance group to win the IDO (International Dance Organisation) World Hip Hop Small Group title two years running — Adult in 2011 and 2012, and Junior the same year — competing against dancers from 85 countries.
The recognition took us further than we imagined. The IDO invited us to represent South Africa at the World Dance Sport Federation Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the first "dance Olympics" — making us the first hip hop crew ever to compete there. We've since performed in Germany, Slovenia, Austria and Taiwan, won SA's Got Talent in 2016, choreographed SHOUT (a nationwide anti-rape flash mob), danced in the opening of the World Anti-Doping Association event, opened for Kanye West at Castle Light Subzero, and choreographed and featured in the AFCON 2013 Samsung anthem, watched right across the continent.
Formally registered as an academy in 2013, Kryptonite Dance Academy is an award-winning, youth-run performing arts institution. Founded and still led by dancers who came up in this very studio, we use dance and music to educate, groom and expose young people to every opportunity in the local and international creative industry.
What we teach
Five street dance styles — Hip Hop, House, Breaking, Amapiano and Popping — across two age brackets:
- Street Dance Kidz (7–12 years): the fundamentals in a fun, energetic room built to spark creativity and confidence
- Beginners (13+): a proper foundation and an easy way into the crew
- Intermediate and Advanced (13+): by evaluation only — sharpen your battle technique, freestyling and stage presence. Advanced dancers can audition for Kryptonite Kreativz, our professional and brand-facing arm.
Classes run Tuesday to Saturday, 09h00–21h00 at 69 Freight Road, Louwlardia, Centurion, next to Grey Owl. Monthly fees start at R1,000, drop-in is R200 a session, and there are no classes on Monday or Wednesday.
Why dance matters to us
Dance builds coordination, rhythm, teamwork and confidence. It gives young people somewhere to put their energy, something to be proud of, and a room full of people who notice them. We've watched shy kids find their voice and street kids find a stage. Our goal is to bring that to thousands of young people across Gauteng and beyond, through the one language every culture understands — hip hop.
Book a class: WhatsApp or call 082 572 9407, or email [email protected]. New students are welcome — no audition needed for Beginners or Kidz.
We stand for: LOVE. BLOOD. AMBITION. PASSION.
