This Friday and Saturday, we'll be loading up and heading to the Kragdag Horse Show, where three of our Galahad Percherons will proudly step into the ring.

There's something special about the days leading up to a show. The grooming, the bathing, the endless brushing, the polishing of tack, the final training sessions... and, of course, making sure every horse is looking and feeling their absolute best.

Behind every few minutes in the show ring are countless hours of preparation, dedication and care. It's a team effort, and we're incredibly excited to showcase these amazing horses!

The best rides aren't always the ones in the arena.

Some of our favourite moments happen far away from the show ring.

No pressure.
No ribbons.
No stopwatch.

Just a girl, her horse, and the African bush on the farm.

This is Nakima and Mischke enjoying an afternoon ride. Along the way we spotted wildlife grazing peacefully nearby, and true to her Percheron nature, Nakima simply carried on as if it was just another day.

It's one of the many reasons this breed has stolen our hearts. Their calm minds, willing attitude and steady temperament make them wonderful partners, whether you're preparing for the show ring or simply exploring the farm.

These are the moments that remind us why we love what we do and why we chose Percherons.

Sometimes it's the little improvements that make the biggest difference!

For years, we've had a small tack room that served its purpose, but as Galahad Stud has grown, so has our collection of saddles, bridles, grooming equipment, blankets and everything else that comes with caring for our horses.

Thanks to Gerhard Taljaard , we now have a beautiful new, much larger tack room—and I honestly couldn't be happier.

Everything finally has its own place. It's organised, easy to find, and there's room to keep it that way. Anyone who owns horses knows how quickly tack can pile up, so having a space that's practical as well as tidy is something I've dreamed about for a long time.

It's amazing how something as simple as opening the tack room door and seeing everything neatly in its place can make you smile.

A huge thank you to Gerhard for building it for me. ❤️ It means more than you know, and I know it will make caring for our horses and preparing for shows so much easier for years to come.

Now... I just have to make sure it stays this neat! 😅

This year, Galahad Stud proudly entered several of our beloved Percherons into the 2026 Virtual Draught Horse Show, and what an exciting experience it has been!

We are incredibly proud of every horse that represented our stud. Seeing them recognised by the judges is truly rewarding and reminds us why we love what we do.

Meet Basson Maximos – Our “Weirdly Wonderful” Young Stallion

At Galahad Percheron Stud, every horse has its own story, and Maximos certainly stands out in the herd.

Maximos is a three-year-old stallion with a rather unusual colour. While his genetics show black influence, he is not completely black, giving him a very interesting and distinctive appearance. His colouring has made him quite the talking point around the stud!

To better understand his potential for the future, we have completed genomic testing and are now eagerly awaiting the results. These results will help us determine whether Maximos will be suitable to remain a breeding stallion, potentially producing black or grey foals, or whether the best path forward will be for him to become a gelding.

Breeding decisions are never taken lightly, and careful evaluation is an important part of maintaining the quality and integrity of the Percheron breed.

For now, Maximos continues to grow, develop, and keep us all curious — and we look forward to seeing what the test results reveal about this very special young horse.
