*DESPATCH -* While some teams play for log points, others play for survival. And that is exactly where Roses R.F.C from Despatch finds itself.
This Saturday, 29th August at 14:10, the men from Despatch will run out at the Despatch Primary School Rugby Fields in a crucial Adams Cup Community Rugby clash. But this is more than just a game.
Our boys from Despatch are fighting to stay active, fighting to stay relevant, fighting to keep community rugby alive in a competition that has become brutal. The EPRU Adams Cup — known for its physical battles, muddy fields and heart — does not forgive teams that disappear. You have to honour your fixtures, you have to pitch, you have to fight. And Roses is doing exactly that.
On the other side, a dangerous visitor is coming to make a statement.
*Evergreen United R.F.C from Uitenhage (Kariega)* will travel down the R75 to Despatch with one mission: to pick up a win away from home. The team that lives by their motto *"Make A Difference"* — Est. 2009 — has been one of the most organised clubs in the region. They are fit, they are big, and they love to spoil the home party.
For Evergreen, a win in Despatch will be a statement. For Roses, a win is survival.
"More Unity, More Roses" — that is not just a badge for the Despatch side, Est. 2012. It's a lifeline. In a time where many clubs fold because of transport money, kit, and jobs, Roses R.F.C is still pushing. Every training session on a dusty field, every player who pitches after work, is a victory on its own.
The Adams Cup was built for clubs like this. Clubs from Kowie, Alicedale, Klipfontein, Grahamstown — community clubs where rugby is still about pride, not paychecks.
