What an unforgettable few weeks it has been! This series has been a celebration of sport, community and connection.

𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 Hockey Men signed off their five-match test series against 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮 in emphatic fashion yesterday, claiming a resounding victory in the final game to secure the series 3-0.

As the final whistle has blown, we'd like to thank everyone who helped make this event such a success, delivering a fantastic series showcasing the very best of international hockey.

To the organisers, players, coaches, management teams and officials, thank you for your sportsmanship and commitment throughout the tour.

To our volunteers, club staff, sponsors and members, thank you for the countless hours that made this event possible.

And finally, to every supporter who cheered from the sidelines, shared our posts and helped create such a wonderful atmosphere, thank you!

This series marked the first international hockey tour hosted at Riverside Sports Club in almost 20 years, and together we've created memories that will last for many years to come.

Congratulations to the Players of the Match, and thank you to both teams for inspiring the next generation of hockey players across KwaZulu-Natal.

South Africa’s Hockey Men secured the series against Malaysia after a thrilling 3-3 draw in the fourth test, played in pouring rain at Riverdide Sports Club last night.

Captain Dayaan Cassiem led SA out in his 99th test for his country, while Malaysia also celebrated a milestone as Shello Silverius reached his 100th international cap.

While SA will be frustrated not to have closed out the victory, the result was enough to seal the series ahead of Sunday’s final test. After four matches, SA lead 2-0, with two wins and two draws.

It's hard to believe this incredible international series between 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 and 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮 is almost over.

Over the past two weeks, we've welcomed one of Asia's top hockey nations, celebrated world-class competition and watched Riverside Sports Club once again become the home of international hockey.

𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 hockey team made a winning return to KZN as they opened their five-match test series against 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮'𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 at Riverside Sports Club last night.

With one place in the world rankings between them, this contest is an important step in their build-up to the FIH Hockey World Cup in August.

The opening quarter saw the teams testing each other. Chances were limited, tackles were committed, and at the end of the first 15 minutes, 0-0 reflected a tightly contested start.

SA broke the deadlock in the second quarter. A Calvin Davis penalty corner strike hit a defender on the line, and Carlon Mentoor reacted quickly, giving SA the lead.

Luke Wynford and Trevor de Lora combined superbly, leading to Wynford scoring his 1st international goal and SA's 2nd of the night.

The crowd roared with every attack, tackle, and save as the atmosphere continued to build.

Captain Dayaan Cassiem, determined to leave his mark, unleashed a rocket reverse-stick strike for his 35th international goal and SA’s 3rd of the night.

Malaysia continued to push and forced SA into defensive work, finding a late consolation through Rozemi, who deflected a penalty corner home.

With a 3-1 victory, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 in front of an outstanding crowd, and the team will look to carry that momentum into 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟴:𝟬𝟬.

Most people remember the matches, but only a few get to see what comes before them.

This week, 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 has become the training base for the 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 as they prepare for their upcoming 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 against 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮.

Every session is built around precision, preparation and repetition; every drill has a purpose, and every movement has been practised thousands of times.

Watching an international team prepare reminds us that excellence isn't created on match day. It's created on ordinary mornings through 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 and relentless 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹.

For our community's young players and coaches, this is an incredible opportunity to witness what elite preparation really looks like.

The standards may be international but the lessons are universal.
