While the local sailors were battling it out on the water, and over a potjie - the Funke's were up the road at Aeolians, participating in the 505 Nationals and the Dabchick Gauteng Regionals.
Congrats to Peter and Thomas on being crowned 505 Nationals again, successfully defending their title.
It wasn't all smooth sailing for the Funke seniors however - they had an almighty tussle with Kyle Klaas and Robert van Gruenwaldts. After the 12 races, they had mirrored results - both with 6 wins, and both with 6 second places. Finishing on 18 points each, and after discards - both on 14 points. The decision came down to the final race - who took the win in the 12th race.
Thomas shared with us this morning , 'The conditions were very light. Our worst conditions. Kyle and Robert are masters in that wind. We were happy that we could keep up with them, and retain our crown!'

Sharing the race course, 17 youngsters competed in the Dabbies - joining them was young Gust Funke who finished tenth overall. In his 12 races, he registered 2 fourth places. The fleet were chasing Dylan Hall around the course in all 12 of the races - well sailed to Dylan travelling up from the Cape.
