Our Story

The Golf Shop On Windsor stocks a wide range of golfing equipment, both new and good quality reconditioned clubs and golf balls for all types of golfers – including a range of children’s equipment for some who might be playing Windsor’s well regarded 9-hole mashie course.

Alasdair and Judy McLeod own & run the pro-shop with the enthusiasm of the long-time golfers they are, and love to talk about the intricacies of Windsor or any of the many courses they are familiar with, as well as the idiosyncrasies and advantages of the golfing equipment you’ll find in stock in the shop.

Apart from their range of golf wear, shirts, shorts, caps, and shoes, the Golf Shop on Windsor stocks reclaimed golf balls, reconditioned golf clubs, and rents out golf clubs, golf bags and pull carts.

About Alasdair and Judy, the golf shop’s proprietors.
Former League Tennis player Judy McLeod turned to golf in 2001 upon meeting Alasdair. Judy has been a past lady captain of Athlone Golf Club at Windsor, as well the president of the KZN Senior Women’s Golfers Society. Her handicap is 25, and Windsor Park is her home course.

Judy has played courses as far afield as Poultwood in Kent, England and La Troquet in France. As far as the shop is concerned, Alasdair is always on the lookout for quality second hand clubs of value that he can have reconditioned for the benefit of patrons of the Golf Shop. Judy is charge of golf balls and admin.

Alasdair McLeod has been involved with golf for a reasonably long time, since 1989 when he first joined the Boshoek Country Club, near his farm in Balgown, way back when you were required to place R15 in the honesty box and sign a register in order to play the course.

Alasdair’s involvement with golf goes far beyond being just a long time player. In 1990, after he moved his architectural practice to Balgown, Alasdair was commissioned to design the hotel and time share chalets for the massive Champagne Sports Resort in central Drakensberg, South Africa

Once work was underway on the hotel and time share chalets, Alasdair was then commissioned to design and build the hotel’s 18 hole golf course. From 1996-1997 he designed and built three golf courses; Champagne Sports’Resort 18 hole championship course, and two 9 hole courses,; Augusta and Camelot country estates. During the construction of these courses, Alasdair was ably assisted by his son Miles, who co-ordinated the constructions of the greens, tee-boxes, fairways, and irrigation. Miles went on to a career in the construction industry, but with his keen passion for golf can be found often behind the counter at Windsor Golf Shop.

At the age of 80, Alasdair plays off an 18 handicap, and is a member of Athlone Golf Club and plays out of Windsor Park Golf Course, Durban South Africa
