Hello Durban, for those of you who have not met me before, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tyler & I teach alignment & stability focused yoga asana classes. My journey in yoga began with a quest to find inner peace after a trying time in my life & has evolved over the years. In the process it has ignited in me an unexpected passion for understanding & studying the human condition & biomechanics of the body. Through my teaching I continue learning & growing. I hope to help others do the same as they discover what Yoga may have in store for them, so that they too can appreciate life’s journey with brand new eyes.
Working with a combination of Hatha, Vinyasa & Restorative Yoga I keep my classes “spiritually neutral”, focusing more on the physical/practical aspects, such as asana & pranayama, that then pave the way for self alignment on a more subtle level. I have been teaching private yoga on a mobile basis in & around Durban North/Umhlanga since 2017 & am now teaching a Wed 9am group class as well as the occasional pop-up class too.
“It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self and intelligence.”

Have you ever found yourself trying to change an old bad habit or shift the direction of your journey, constantly trying to avoid certain situations or thinking about how you can't let this or that happen?
It's like trying to stop eating donuts but when you go to the shops you constantly look at the donuts & think about how you must not have them anymore... Have you noticed how ineffective this approach is? You end up salavating right on the spot & more than likely give into the temptation "just one last time".
Instead think of what you are going to replace that bad habit or old practice with and then focus on that.
For example: Instead of thinking about the donuts, focus on what you are there to do and leave. Perhaps even have a healthier substitute treat in mind in case you feel tempted. If the temptation arises try shift your thoughts to how proud you would be if you chose better this time & then without dwelling, grab your healthy option and move on. Cut any further thoughts pertaining to that off as you continue your shop. The first few times may be a little challenging still but you will move on quicker than if you allow you mind to focus on avoiding the temptation.
The same can be said for building a different life to the one you have. Instead of dwelling on all the things you dislike about your current life, focus on what you can do to get to the life you want & then tackle one step at a time🙌🌼

Our greatest tool is the ability to change our perspectives, for our perceptions determine how we experience life, how we react to it and what we make of it!

Don't have a bolster at home?
Here are some handy substitutes for bolsters that you can use in your yoga practice. Bolsters are without a doubt one of the best props in yoga, some of my favorite modifications & variations would not be possible without them. But if we are honest, they can be rather pricey & space consuming & therefore inaccessible if you are on a low budget or have a small space. If you are an at home Youtube/Zoom yoga student or just like to do your own practice outside the studio too, then here are a few substitute options for these amazing props, using average household items.
Ps: Remember, bolsters are meant to have a little weight and a higher density, if your pillows are too soft or blankies too low, you can mix n match to achieve the desired height / density.

Every minute of every day we are manifesting and attracting different outcomes and situations into our lives. Many of us do this unconsciously, while others manifest with conscious intent.
When we are conscious and mindful about our manifestations we can avoid unwanted situations and outcomes. We can be more detailed and efficient when working to achieve that which we desire in life and when we do eventually achieve these goals it is far more rewarding.
I like to think of it as having a budget for your energy: you know what you want to achieve and you know how much time and energy needs to go towards each intention in order to cultivate the desired outcome. You also know how much time needs to be spent recharging & replenishing your energy. Every so often you review your budget, re-evaluate and perhaps you try a new strategy where it's needed. By tending to your "cultivation budget" mindfully, you can tap into the abundance of the universe and attain these goals in a seemingly effortless manner. Life will begin to work in your favor and eventually you begin to feel more fulfilled and aligned with your Dharma.

Probably the biggest lesson I had to learn last year. Don't put yourself in a situation where you are giving all your energy to those around you and leaving nothing for yourself!
It not about neglecting those around you, its about not neglecting yourself 🙌

Probably the biggest lesson I learnt last year. Don't get youself in a situation where you are giving all your energy to support everyone around you and leaving nothing for yourself!

All about Utthita Trikonasana
A.k.a. Extended Triangle
This is by far one of my favorite asanas to use in warm ups! Trikonasana is a well rounded stretch that helps a stiff body open up quicker. It is accessible to all levels & an oh so satisfying way to begin a class. What more could you ask for?
A few benefits of this asana are:
👉 Stretches & strengthens the legs, ankles & feet
👉 Helps therapy flat feet (SO overlooked!)
👉 Stretches the waist, chest & spine and alleviates back pain & sciatica
👉 Stimulates the abdominal organs & improves digestion
👉 Helps improve proprioception & balance/grounding
👉 Reduces tension in the hips
Main Modifications:
💡 If you have a neck injury/issue, lots of tension or just struggle with your balance
▶Look forward or down instead of up, being sure to keep the neck in line with your breast bone
💡 If you have a shoulder injury or lots of tension & struggle keeping the top arm up without pain
▶ Place your top hand on your hip & draw the elbow back
💡 If you are recovering from a knee or hammy injury, or you have a hyper flexible knee (your knee bows back)
▶ Keep a slight bend in your knee while keeping it in alignment with your hip & ankle
Check out the second slide for some basic alignment guidance.*
These are relatively general modifications, if you are struggling with any injuries & just want some info feel free to DM me & I will happily help where I can.
If you want to know about any other asanas / postures, let me know in the comments below 🙌

They both have a place and are valuable in many ways. Don't disregard the one for the other🙌

Don't overwhelm yourself with your entire to do list in one day! Its almost always going to leave you feeling like you have failed by the end of the day. Which in turn means you will be less motivated the next day and possible will end up procrastinating or avoiding the mountain you see before you.
Instead pick the top 3 most important things and focus of completing those. If you finish them with time to spare then tackle another.
If you only manage to do those three then be content & happy that you at least achieved what you set out to do & checked it off the list.
The secret is consistent baby steps!💜💮
