*CITY CLOSES BEACHES FOLLOWING HEAVY RAINS*

EThekwini Municipality wishes to inform the public that all City beaches are closed until further notice.

This decision was advised by the Natal Sharks Board due to murky water which is full of logs and other unsafe objects due to the recent heavy rains. As a result, the shark nets at most beaches were broken making beaches unsafe for the public to use.

All water activities are prohibited. However, residents can still enjoy other activities along the beach that do not require them to come into contact with sea water.

Beachgoers are urged to heed this warning.

Teams are hard at work fixing the nets and infrastructure that was damaged by the heavy rains.

The City apologises for the inconvenience.

Motorists are reminded that a portion of the N2 and the M13 will be temporarily closed on Saturday, 14 October at 6pm to Monday, 16 October at 5am.
The M13 bridge over the N2 will be closed with both the West bound and East bound traffic being unable to use the King Cetshwayo Bridge. The N2 will also be closed to traffic in both directions between the Spaghetti Junction and Umgeni interchanges (North and South bound carriageways).
The closures are due to the demolition of half of the King Cetshwayo bridge on the M13 as part of the N2 upgrade process.
Motorists are urged to exercise patience, plan their trips, and consider alternate routes.
