MEET THE SQUAD
"The water has always been my happy place, and joining the Hurricane Squad has reinforced that tremendously.
After many years of scuba diving, I finally discovered my love for freediving. I completed a level one course in October 2023 and was immediately introduced to the concept of hypoxic training. I thought it would be a sure way to improve my ability to freedive - I had no idea that it would also push me to achieve more than I thought possible, improve my physical and mental wellbeing, and surround me with some of the best human beings on this beautiful earth.
The support, encouragement and motivation that Coach Angie provides extends far beyond the pool, and when pushing your personal limits in the water, you can rest assured that the person next to you has your back. This a safe place to become a better version of yourself whilst consistently being cheered on by the squad.
I pulled in for the training. I stayed for the people."

How long can you hold your breath? Did you know that the feeling of needing to breathe or "air hunger" is not caused by a lack of oxygen. This feeling is triggered by increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the blood.
Co2 is a by-product of respiration. If it is not released from the body by exhaling, the elevated levels in the blood signal the brain that you need to breathe.
Understanding this process, training your body to withstand higher levels of Co2, and improving your tolerance will allow you to stay under water for extended periods of time.
Always train with a buddy and never dive alone!

MEET THE SQUAD
"I started training with the .squad.dbn when I began to explore the fascinating discipline of freediving. I was further encouraged by my wild and wonderful friend, .angie, who doubles up as our coach. At first, I simply enjoyed the social element of it. Joy and playfulness are BIG motivators for me, and thereβs plenty of that to be found here! But thatβs only just the start.
Being part of the squad nurtures a sense of belonging, but most significantly, it has helped develop my self-confidence. Each session in the pool gives me the space to show up for myself β to REALLY listen to my body, trust my instincts, and challenge myself to strive for excellence. A year ago, I would never have believed I was this capable!
Donβt think, just do! See you in the water!"

Get out of your head and into the water! π So often we get caught up in the busy mind... over thinking, over reacting & filling our head with noise.
When we freedive, we consciously relax. Steady the breath, unclench the jaw, lower the heart rate. Be mindful of the present moment. In doing this, our think becomes clear, irrelevant troubles are left on the surface and we can move forward in control.
A reminder that these tools are available to us at any moment, on any day. Just Breathe.
Tag a buddy to remind them to breathe!

MEET THE TEAM
I started HS squad with a "cross training" and "let's do something different" mindset.
My " why" has completely changed in the short time I have been going through.
The squad, the camaraderie, the underlying competitive nature while having fun, the let's see where you can go and the fact that each person is fighting their fight and no matter how small the victory it's always encouraged and celebrated.
The impact on me has been immense, as I am a water baby through and through but I am learning that there is always something more to learn and to master and being part of a squad like this is the right place to do so.

What is mental resilience? π§ It is the process & outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, behavioral flexibility & adjustment to external and internal demands.
One of the biggest challenges of hypoxic training is overcoming the MIND. Your terrestrial brain is telling you that it's unsafe under water. Learning to trust & understand your body's aquatic ability can build mental resilience. Intentionally putting yourself in a "stressful" environment and adapting the mind to remain calm.
Never dive alone. Always train with a buddy. Join us at .squad.dbn π

MEET THE SQUAD
"There is no other training that can compare to an hour in the water with the .squad.dbn
I have always thought that time in the ocean can solve most problems, but it turns out that a session with the HS can too.
What makes it so special? I think itβs the combination of breath work, exertion, focus, achievement, coach and being part of an amazing dive tribe.
I can honestly say that freedivers are epic humans β¦. and things are always better after being in the water!" ππ
