Our adventure started at the Travis Duggan 4x4 Training Facility before heading out to explore the beautiful Wekeweke Falls and the historic Old Fire Lookout Tower.

We then made our way back to my spectacular viewpoint for sundowners, overlooking the entire area we had just spent the afternoon exploring🌄🥂

There really is something special about watching an African sunset with your colleagues, sharing stories, having a laugh and appreciating the incredible country we get to call home🇿🇦🫶

Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting another fantastic BYD Pietermaritzburg Absa South Africa Customer 4x4 Experience at my Travis Duggan 4x4 Training Facility🇿🇦🙌

One of the things I enjoy most about these events is watching customers discover just how incredible this new generation of vehicle technology really is🤩

It’s fascinating to see their reactions, hear their feedback and watch their confidence grow as they get behind the wheel and experience the vehicles’ impressive off-road capabilities firsthand.

There’s nothing quite like experiencing what a vehicle can actually do rather than just reading about it👌

Another phenomenal SMG Toyota Hillcrest Customer 4x4 Day 🇿🇦🙌

Today was a proper LAND CRUISER DAY! 💪🔥

Epic vehicles, great customers and plenty of proper 4x4 action out on the track! There’s nothing better than watching customers learn what their vehicles are truly capable of in a safe and controlled environment.

I also managed to get caught right in the splash zone of one of the Land Cruisers and got myself a free mudding session! 😂💦

It’s been a while since I’ve come home looking like that! 😂😅

Another brilliant day doing what I love with great people and some legendary Toyota 4x4s.

Hamer is a brand I’ve proudly had on a number of my vehicles over the years, and I’ve had the privilege of watching Bryce and Jason build and grow the brand into what it is today.

What an incredible South African success story, built through passion, hard work and a genuine love for the 4x4 industry🇿🇦

On Saturday we hosted another successful Bidvest McCarthy Toyota Customer 4x4 Day 🇿🇦🙌

A great day out with a fantastic group of Toyota customers, putting their 4x4s through their paces and learning more about what their vehicles are truly capable of.

For me, these days are all about building driver confidence, understanding your vehicle and learning the correct techniques in a safe and controlled environment.

🇿🇦 BYD 1-ON-1 4x4 DRIVER TRAINING🦈⚡️

On Friday we hosted another BYD 1-on-1 4x4 Driver Training Masterclass — an epic day on the track with a phenomenal vehicle🤩🙌

This was also my first opportunity to properly experience the new Rage Mode in the 1.5 Shark 6 also known as Leopard Mode in the 2.0 Shark Performance, introduced through an over-the-air software update to all their vehicles.

For me, this is where things get really interesting👌

🐆 CLIMBING MODE
Designed for steep, rocky and uneven terrain. The system manages low-speed power delivery and traction to help the vehicle crawl smoothly over obstacles with minimal driver input.

💪 TUGGING MODE
Designed for situations where maximum low-speed traction and controlled power delivery are required, including vehicle recovery.

⚙️ WHAT MAKES RAGE MODE INTERESTING?

It effectively gives the driver another tool for technical off-road situations where a conventional 4x4 would traditionally rely heavily on low-range gearing and differential locks.

The system manages torque delivery, wheelspin and throttle response electronically, helping the vehicle maintain controlled momentum across rocks, ruts and steep gradients.

Importantly, it doesn’t physically turn the BYD into a traditional low-range 4x4 — but it shows just how far software-controlled off-road systems are progressing.

And that is exactly why driver training remains so important. Understanding what the technology is doing, when to use it and where its limitations are is just as important as having the technology itself.

A special day today hosting AJ Myeni, a Grade 11 Maritzburg College boy, for his work experience

AJ got to experience a real mix of what I do — starting the day with me at Phezulu Safari Park, where we were doing 4x4 Driver Training with some of their Game Guides.

From there, we headed back to the Travis Duggan 4x4 Training Facility, where AJ had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of my Alpine Hillcrest VW Amarok and experience some proper 4x4 driving for himself💪🇿🇦

We finished off the day visiting a few of my local motor dealerships as well as 4x4 Mega World Hillcrest, giving him a look into the wider motoring and 4x4 industry.

It’s always great to spend time with young people who are keen to learn, ask questions and make the most of opportunities like these.

All the very best for your Grade 12 year next year, AJ. Keep working hard and making the most of every opportunity — you have a bright future ahead of you👌

🌧️ KNOWING WHEN TO STOP IS PART OF BEING A GOOD 4x4 DRIVER 🚜🇿🇦

Unfortunately, we’ve had to postpone three events this weekend after receiving more than 90mm of rain this week.

For me, one of the most important lessons in off-road driving is knowing when the risk outweighs the reward.

Being a good 4x4 driver isn’t just about getting through the toughest obstacle. It’s about knowing when to stop and say, “It’s too dangerous to continue.”

You need to understand:
👉 Your limits as a driver
👉 Your vehicle’s limits
👉 The terrain and changing conditions
👉 When turning around is the right decision

There will always be another day to tackle the trail.
