Yesterday we hosted another fantastic Private 4x4 Driver Training Sunday at the Travis Duggan 4x4 Experience🇿🇦

We also had the pleasure of welcoming a few Bidvest McCarthy Toyota customers who were unable to attend their scheduled training dates, ensuring they didn’t miss out on building their off-road skills.

What a phenomenal day🙌 It was incredibly dusty out on the trails, but that certainly didn’t dampen the experience. We had a brilliant mix of vehicles tackling the obstacles, and an even better group of enthusiastic drivers.

One of the highlights was the number of great questions being asked throughout the day. Seeing drivers wanting to understand not just how to tackle obstacles, but why different techniques and vehicle systems work, is what these training days are all about.

Yesterday we had the privilege of hosting Gagasi FM and their valued customers for an unforgettable Corporate 4x4 Fun Day at the Travis Duggan 4x4 Training Facility🇿🇦🙌

The day kicked off with a phenomenal brunch at Ciao Bar, our on-site restaurant, before heading out onto the trails in a fleet of Alpine Motor Group vehicles. Together we explored the spectacular Clifton Canyon and the breathtaking Wekeweke Falls, putting the vehicles through their paces while enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery the Upper Highway has to offer.

After an action-packed morning, we returned to the facility to enjoy a delicious Spit Braai, the perfect way to round off an incredible day.

It’s always a privilege to spend the day helping drivers build confidence, sharpen their 4x4 skills, and discover exactly what their Toyota is capable of in the right environment.

From technical obstacles and steep inclines to off-camber sections and recovery techniques, every challenge is another opportunity to learn and grow.

For years I’ve wanted to fit a drawer system in the back of my FJ Cruiser, but every option I looked at—whether online or in stores—just wasn’t quite right. Either the layout didn’t suit my needs, or the height compromised the practicality of the setup.

It’s been a busy few days at the Travis Duggan 4x4 Driver Training Facility🇿🇦💪

On Sunday, we hosted another fantastic Alpine Motor Group 4x4 Training Day, putting both drivers and vehicles through their paces on the track.

On Tuesday, we headed up to Hilton to present an Advanced & Defensive Driver Training Course as part of our Student Drive Program. Investing in young drivers and teaching them the skills to stay safe on our roads is something I’m incredibly passionate about.

Yesterday, it was back to the track for a special one-on-one Toyota Prado 4x4 Driver Training Session, helping another owner unlock the full capability of their vehicle with confidence and the correct techniques.

Every course is different, every driver is different, but the goal is always the same—building safer, more capable and more confident drivers, both on and off the road.

New Vehicle Alert! 🚨

For the past two weeks I’ve been getting to grips with my new Alpine Motor Group Jetour T2, and I have to say, it’s been a fantastic experience.

Many people will say it’s not the hardcore 4x4 that a 4x4 instructor should be driving, but I believe it’s important to expand my knowledge across all 4x4 and AWD vehicles. I want to understand every system inside and out so I can give honest, real-world advice based on experience.

So far, it’s been phenomenal to drive!

Off-road, I’m still putting it through its paces to discover exactly where its limits are as an AWD vehicle without a traditional low-range transfer case. The XWD system is impressive, and the Multi-Terrain Select modes work exceptionally well. One tip I would recommend is activating the Off-Road Radiation function when tackling technical terrain. It provides additional cooling for both the engine and gearbox, especially during long climbs and slow-speed off-road driving.

I can’t wait to get it onto the sand over the coming months—I have a feeling it’s going to perform incredibly well👌

On the road, it’s equally impressive. I absolutely love the shape and feel of the steering wheel, the engine is punchy, it sits beautifully on the road, and it’s averaging around 9 L/100 km, which is excellent for a brand-new AWD vehicle. The panoramic sunroof is a fantastic touch, and I really love the overall styling of the T2.

A massive thank you to Ken and the entire Alpine Jetour team for the opportunity. I look forward to the next five months with this incredible vehicle and can’t wait to continue putting it through its paces—both on and off the road! 🤩🇿🇦

Another epic Saturday of 4x4 Driver Training at the Travis Duggan 4x4 Driver Training Facility🇿🇦💪

It was fantastic to spend the day with another great group of drivers, building confidence, improving skills, and showing just what their vehicles are capable of in a safe, controlled environment.

From understanding 4x4 systems and tackling technical obstacles to steep gradients, side slopes, and recovery techniques, every driver left with more knowledge and confidence than when they arrived.

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us. Your enthusiasm and willingness to learn are what make these training days so rewarding.
