Another epic weekend of Driver Training at the Travis Duggan 4x4 Driver Training Facility! 🇿🇦🚙💨

This weekend we had the pleasure of hosting customers from both Bidvest McCarthy Toyota, along with a private customer group, for 2 busy days of learning, adventure, and building confidence behind the wheel.

The current winter conditions are absolutely perfect for driver training. Cooler temperatures, great traction, and clear weather create an ideal environment for mastering vehicle control, understanding 4x4 systems, and developing safe driving techniques both on and off-road.

A massive thank you to all the customers who joined us and embraced the experience with such enthusiasm. Your willingness to learn and challenge yourselves is what makes these days so rewarding.

This weekend was an extremely busy one😅

On Saturday afternoon we hosted the incredible Team from Alpine Cars Pinetown for a 4x4 Dealership Team Build at the Travis Duggan 4x4 Training Facility🙌 What a fantastic group with such great character and energy!

We had an absolute blast putting the vehicles through their paces and discovering just how capable their BYD, GWM & Jetour off-road vehicles really are👌

I think everyone who knows me understands what the FJ Cruiser means to me as a vehicle.

This weekend I had the pleasure of hosting the SMG Toyota Hillcrest Launch Event at my 4x4 Track in Hillcrest🇿🇦

Ever since NAMPO, I’ve been incredibly excited to get the new FJ Cruiser onto my track and put it through its paces. I must admit, when I first heard about the engine choice, I had my concerns. However, after driving it properly off-road in 4L, I can honestly say the 2.7L motor feels perfectly matched to the vehicle👌

I’m very impressed with the build quality and the standard suspension setup. The clearance & comfort it offers, even at slightly higher speeds off-road, is seriously impressive.

Although the vehicle appears smaller than the previous generation from the outside, it still feels very spacious inside — even for a bigger guy like myself😅

I haven’t yet had the opportunity to drive it properly on-road, so I can’t fully comment on that side of things just yet. Historically, fuel consumption on these motors hasn’t been incredible, but it should still be slightly lighter than the legendary 4.0 V6. Is it the same vehicle as before no but it will definitely find a place in the market.

There are also a few styling details from the original FJ that I’m sad didn’t carry through: The iconic 3 windscreen wipers, The short stubby in your face front windscreen, The roof-mounted sun visor flaps for the side windows & the storage compartment on the dash in-front of the driver.

That said, Toyota has done a phenomenal job bringing back such an iconic nameplate, and I look forward to seeing many of them out on my tracks and trails soon🤩🇿🇦

Another epic 1 on 1 session with a Mitsubishi customer today🙌

Mitsubishi really were one of the original bakkie brands to offer AWD capability when required — a technology that many brands have now followed👌

I’m honestly very surprised more manufacturers still haven’t gone this route🤔
