Empowering the community With LARASA and people like her, our communities will not be the same, teaching people life skills like Gardening. These vegetables are inside a recreational park, planted by homeless people.

Larasa extends an invitation to all public parks and recreation officials, academics and students in Leisure Sciences in SA, to share their strategies to position parks as a component to be included in the multifaceted approach to address the obesity epidemic and quadruple burden of disease. We need to engage in this dialogue from today to transform lives and communities. We look forward to all your contributions!

Operations and capital spending for local parks generates more than $154 billion in economic activity and supports more than 1.1 million jobs in the USA. Local parks and recreation agencies generated nearly $91 billion in economic activity and boosted GDP by $49 billion, 732 000 jobs and almost $34 billion in salaries, wages and benefits in the USA.(NRPA, 2015). We would like more information from the South African leisure studies academics and the public service on the contribution of parks and recreation to the economy ? Please share with us!
