Lawn Bowls for the Visually Impaired
Here in Durban there are a number of visually impaired people that play on a Sunday afternoon at the Berea Bowling Club.
Did you know that blind and visually impaired persons can enjoy a game of lawn bowls like any other person?
Here in Durban there are a number of visually impaired people that play on a Sunday afternoon at the Berea Bowling Club.
Bowls for the visually impaired is played in every country where bowls is played and has been for over sixty years. There are international tournaments held annually and the standard of play is extremely high.
Every bowler is assisted both on and off the green by a sighted person called a director. Our Durban players are provided with bowls and clothing equipment so there is no cost to bear. It is a relaxed and healthy afternoon and a very important part of a visually impaired person’s environment.
If a person has never played bowls, we will teach them so there is no need to feel reluctant to join us.
If anyone is interested in coming to watch or wants to play, we want to meet you as we are looking for new bowlers and directors. For more information, call Peter Lonsdale on 076 5389925 or Gail Van Wyk on 082 3132634.
