Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs aren't immediately obvious!

This little rider, who is on the autism spectrum, has made such incredible progress this year.
There was a time when even simple instructions were met with resistance, and toys he was asked to carry would deliberately end up on the floor.
Watching this, you might still see a little boy who isn't quite cooperating. But I see a playful, happy little boy whose whole body language has changed. ❤️
Even on one of our hottest days, we laughed, played and genuinely engaged with each other.
Progress isn't always about following instructions. Sometimes it's about building trust, finding joy and learning to connect

🐴💙 A New Journey for Haven Hill 💙🐴

This year, we took an exciting new step and ventured into the world of Pony Club alongside one of our riders — and we’ve loved seeing where this journey can lead!
Pony Club offers our riders the opportunity to experience different instructors, venues, disciplines, friendships and a wider equestrian community, while working towards recognised qualifications with pathways that can open doors both locally and internationally. 🌍

We’re so excited that so many of our riders have already said, “I want to do that too!” — and we can’t wait to support even more of our Haven Hill family on this journey next year.

Because sometimes the best way to grow is to help someone else grow. 🌱

At Haven Hill, we believe we don’t just learn from our horses — we learn from each other too. Our older and more experienced riders have the beautiful opportunity to encourage, guide and support those coming up behind them.

The first time she took her pony over a bridge, she had a kind older student by her side, offering support and encouragement. By the end of the morning clinic, that same older friend was cheering them on from the rail. What a beautiful reminder of how quickly confidence can grow when someone believes in you.

It’s about having a go, trying your best, growing with your horse and most importantly… HAVING FUN! 🦋🌼
Every achievement deserves to be celebrated, and sometimes what seems small to one child is massive to another.

From telling his pony to “come” to now proudly telling us his colours. 🐴🌈

Year by year, it’s been so wonderful to watch his progress — becoming more coordinated and balanced in the saddle and in turn on the ground, and now more clear and confident in his voice.

A fun fact about Instructor Heather, is that after school she studied fine arts at University. It's been a looong time since she picked up a paintbrush, but we are pretty confident anything will look better than the ugly wall.

Sometimes the best way to strengthen a skill is to turn it into a game!
A pony water war on a hot day might look like pure fun, but it’s actually a great way to develop confidence, balance, coordination and responsiveness.
We teach each skill step-by-step, practise it in a structured way, and then introduce a game where riders have to react rather than overthink.
Mounting and dismounting, one-handed reining, steering and balance suddenly become part of the fun — and that’s when we can really see if the skill has been developed.
Because sometimes, the best learning happens when you’re too busy having fun to realise you’re learning! ☀️🐴💦
