Every sporting parent knows a family who quietly disappeared mid - season.

No announcement. No drama. They just... stopped showing up.

And when you finally asked - they said:
"My child didn't lose her love for the game. But her soul got tired of fighting through the adults around it."
Not the umpires. Not the losses. Not the early mornings or the long drives.
The adults.

Think about that for a second.
Your child is watching how you handle a bad call. How you talk about the coach on the way home. How you text in that group chat at midnight. How you treat the parent on the other team.

They are learning what adults do when things don't go their way.

Make sure what they are learning is something worth keeping. 🧑

The hardest part about mental blocks is that they often do not make logical sense.

Athletes can do a skill successfully over and over again and still suddenly feel stuck one day.
That is what makes fear so frustrating.

Parents, coaches, and even the athletes themselves try to find a clear reason for why it is happening.
But sometimes there is not one.
The brain simply stops feeling safe.

And when athletes start asking themselves β€œWhy can’t I do this anymore?” it can quickly turn into shame, frustration, and self-doubt.

That is why forcing athletes through fear usually does not help.
What actually helps is patience, communication, and rebuilding trust one step at a time.
Going back to the basics is not failure.

It is part of the process.

Are Our Children Being Coached by the Right People?

Would you take your sick child to a cafΓ© owner for treatment? Or let them fly with an unqualified pilot? Of course not β€” we demand qualified professionals when it matters.

So why do we accept unqualified sports coaches for our children?

Early sporting experiences shape habits, technique, and a love of the game for life. A qualified coach brings the right skills, passion, and knowledge of child development to give every child the best possible start.

Our children deserve nothing less on the pitch than they do in the classroom.

When we entrust our children to a coach, we’re not just shaping athletes β€” we’re shaping people. Qualified coaching isn’t a luxury; it’s a responsibility.

You don't need perfect conditions. You never will.
Stop waiting for the right time, the right resources,
or the right feeling. The right time is when you decide
it is. What you need is a decision and the guts to follow through.
Conditions change. Courage is what you bring to them.
Make the move.

πŸ†πŸ’ Motivation in Sport: Exploring Extrinsic Drive πŸ’πŸ†

In sport, motivation often comes from external sources β€” known as extrinsic motivation. 🌟

This can include:
βœ”οΈ Winning medals and trophies πŸ…
βœ”οΈ Receiving praise from coaches, parents, and peers πŸ‘
βœ”οΈ Earning selection for teams or higher levels πŸ‘
βœ”οΈ Achieving recognition, awards, or sponsorships

Extrinsic motivation can be powerful β€” it helps athletes set goals, push boundaries, and strive for excellence. However, when it becomes the only focus, it can sometimes add pressure or take away from enjoyment of the game.

The key is balance β€” combining external rewards with internal passion to create a healthy, sustainable love for sport. πŸ’™

πŸ†πŸ’ Motivation in Sport: Exploring Intrinsic Drive πŸ’πŸ†

True motivation in sport goes beyond trophies, awards, and recognition β€” it comes from within. 🌱✨

Intrinsic motivation is that inner drive that pushes athletes to:
βœ”οΈ Show up even when it’s tough
βœ”οΈ Train because they love the game
βœ”οΈ Improve for personal growth, not just approval
βœ”οΈ Find joy in effort, learning, and progress

When athletes connect with their why, performance becomes more consistent, pressure becomes lighter, and sport becomes something truly meaningful. πŸ’™πŸ‘

Let’s encourage young athletes to fall in love with the process β€” not just the outcome.

πŸ’™πŸ‘ Such an incredible moment of gratitude and pride! πŸ’™

I was absolutely thrilled to receive such positive feedback from the Curro hockey girls 🌟 β€” it truly means the world to know that the sessions had a meaningful impact on their mindset, confidence, and approach both on and off the field.

Watching their growth over the past weeks and hearing their reflections has been so rewarding. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do β€” helping young athletes believe in themselves and develop stronger, more positive mindsets πŸ’βœ¨

Thank you Curro Hockey for the opportunity and to every player for your energy, honesty, and commitment πŸ™Œ
