The best trail maintenance doesn't always involve a shovel - Sometimes it comes from the sky 🌧️

Winter rain and showers helps recharge the soil, strengthen it, and create the conditions needed for healthy, resilient trails. Ever since the well known floods a few months back, we've hardly had normal winter rainfall. In fact, we've been carting water to most of our maintenance projects for the last two months ! Thus, when we see clouds building up like today, we get very excited.

Yes, our teams on the ground build, shape and maintain the network, but rain lays the foundation that makes all of that possible. So while rainy days might keep us off our bikes, we gratefully accept Mother Nature's eminent assistance - it has been one of the most arid winters in many a year.

Here's to expected rain, healthy trails, green hillsides, and many more great rides to come 🙌

IMPORTANT UPDATE !

Please note that the cement road on Bloemendal Wine Estate up to the disused Restaurant at the top, has been closed for public access.

Although never part of our official routes on our network, the landowners instructed us to make sure that none of our members, or non members, use the road. This will include usage on bicycle, by foot, vehicles of any sort, etc. The only exception being the one or two official crossings of the cement road on the club's existing trail routes. Using this road at any other sections could jeopardize relationships with our landowners and impact future access opportunities.

⚠️ Please do not access or use the road even if, for whatever reason, the large main gate happens to be open. An open gate on any private property does not mean access is allowed.

Please use only the designated and approved access routes to reach the trails and facilities on our network.

As we continue to maintain positive relationships with all our landowners, we ask your cooperation to protect access to for everyone.

This past weekend, a group of riders went off the designated MTB routes at Welvergenoegd and rode through areas that are strictly off-limits. In doing so, private farm gates were used and left open, allowing cattle to wander out into crops, causing a lot of damage. The landowner has understandably expressed his frustration and made it clear that a repeat incident could result in mountain biking access at Welvergenoegd being permanently withdrawn.

Please always remember, no matter how vast the landscape you find yourself on, it is always private land, and we're welcomed guests only on the official trails and routes.

- Stay on the official, marked routes.
- Respect all "No Cycling" signs and trail closures.
- Always ensure all gates are closed on our routes and trails.

Our trail network exists because of the trust and goodwill of private landowners. Every rider who ignores the club's basic rules puts that trust, and everyone's access to these farms, at risk.

As always, the greater majority of riders do the right thing, and we thank you for that. We simply ask everyone to help protect what we have by riding responsibly and encouraging others to do the same.

Let's work together to ensure that our trail network remains open for everyone to enjoy for many years to come. 💙🚵
