A BIG THANK YOU!

A heartfelt thank you to the East London Department of Correctional Services Pharmacy for donating 10 chess clocks (R3,450) and R2,900 towards our players’ trip to the Eastern Cape Closed Chess Championship in Jeffreys Bay.

Special thanks to Mr Tukulu for recommending our dedicated and hardworking Bhongweni Chess Club. Your support is helping us send 22 players to compete and grow through chess.

Together, we are changing lives, one move at a time. ♟️❤️

Bhongweni Chess Club NPO sincerely thanks the East London Department of Correctional Services Pharmacy for donating 10 chess clocks valued at R3,450 and R2,900 cash towards our players’ trip to the Eastern Cape Closed Chess Championship in Jeffreys Bay. Special thanks to Mr Tukulu for recommending our hard working club to his fellow colleagues. The 10 clocks will make a lasting impact on our training and tournaments, becoming part of the Bhongweni Chess Club legacy.

Bhongweni Chess Club uses chess to develop discipline, critical thinking, leadership and opportunity for young people as well as taking kids out of the streets. With 22 players qualified, we are still raising funds to ensure every player can attend. To support our players:

Bhongweni Chess Club was honoured to be invited to participate in the Pharmacy Wellness Day hosted by the Department of Correctional Services.

The club had the opportunity to present its work and share how chess is being used to develop young people, particularly from underprivileged communities.

Bhongweni Chess Club is proud of its success in developing players who have progressed to provincial, national and international levels, demonstrating that talent can thrive regardless of background when given the right opportunities and support.

We sincerely appreciate the organisers for inviting us and giving us the platform to showcase our work and the positive impact of chess in our communities.

Fort Grey Public School is participating at the South African Schools Team Championship 2026 🤩🥳

We are proud to announce that Fort Grey Public School is currently participating in the South African Schools Team Championship 2026, representing the Eastern Cape.

This prestigious event serves as a qualifier for the FIDE Continental School Event, which will be hosted in Cape Town from 6–11 July 2026.

We are especially proud that all four players representing Fort Grey Public School are members of Bhongweni Chess Club:

♟️ Board 3: Imthande Yaphi
♟️ Board 4: Akhelethu Dikane

With 75 schools from across South Africa competing for national honours, teams will be striving to finish in the Top 3 and secure qualification for the Continental event.

We wish our players and the entire Fort Grey team every success as they compete against the country’s best young chess talent. Your dedication, discipline, and hard work have earned you this opportunity, and we are proud to support you every move of the way.
