A properly fitted gum guard must be protective, comfortable, resilient, tear resistant, odorless, tasteless, not bulky, cause minimal interference to speak and breathing, and (possibly the most important criterion) have excellent retention, fit, and sufficient thickness in critical areas.

“Winners never quit, and quitters never win!” This can be heard in any high school locker room across the country. There’s so much pressure placed on young athletes to win. Are teenagers pushing themselves too hard, too soon? Unfortunately, too many are. And this pressure is causing too many high school sports injuries. Overtraining has become a widespread problem for teenage athletes in the uber-competitive and increasingly specialized reality of youth sports.

The pressure to win can cause significant emotional stress for a child. Sadly, many coaches and parents consider winning the most important aspect of sports. Young athletes should be judged on effort, sportsmanship and hard work. They should be rewarded for trying hard and for improving their skills rather than punished or criticised for losing a game or competition. The main goal should be to have fun and learn lifelong physical activity skills.

Making sure your child always wears the right helmet for their activity and that it fits correctly. Wearing a helmet is a must to help reduce the risk of a serious brain injury or skull fracture. However, helmets are not designed to prevent concussions. There is no “concussion-proof” helmet.

Elbow pads are often neglected by mountain bikers, which is very unfortunate given a knock to the elbow can set you back just as much as a knock to the knee. Long gone are the days of hard plastic shells keeping your elbows rigid and uncomfortable. These days elbow pads are flexible and move with you, and harden on impact. Not only are they much more comfortable, but they are also a whole lot more protective! Technology advancements mean riders are better protected in crashes without having a heap more material to keep them covered.

Do you have a little soccer star on your hands? Or maybe you have a kiddo that’s interested in getting his or her first kick on the field. Whatever the case, as a parent, you’re going to need to know about the gear that’s involved in the game. And one of the most important pieces to that puzzle - the shin guard.

Getting young children involved in sports and other recreational activities is a great way to keep them healthy, happy, and fit. But being active also increases a child’s chances of getting hurt. Each year, more than 3.5 million children ages 14 and under receive medical treatment for sports-related injuries. Sports-related injuries, even at a young age, can lead to re-injuries, osteoarthritis, and future decreased activity. Sprains (mostly of the ankle) account for the most common injuries, followed by muscle strains, bone injuries, repetitive motion injuries, and heat-related illness.

Regardless of where you're storing sports equipment, the goal should be to get everything off the floor and in a place where it's easy to put away. If your storage solutions aren't easy or conveniently located, you're starting at a disadvantage. Fortunately, there are a lot of organizing products available for storing equipment, whether you need to put away baseball bats or ski boots.

It seems that when parents aren't driving their kids to sports practices and games, they're busy organizing all the equipment that accompanies their kids to those activities. Keeping track of all the uniforms and equipment for multiple sports - and sometimes multiple children - is a challenge, especially because items are constantly coming and going, need to be cleaned and are often transported to events in different cars, where they can be left behind accidentally. Every piece of equipment and part of a uniform should be labeled. Not only so your child can distinguish it from teammates' belongings, but also so parents can distinguish one child's baseball glove, soccer shorts or helmet from their other children's equipment.
