A reminder of the four safety rules:

1. Keep your fi***rm pointed in a safe direction, away from people.
2. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
3. Treat all fi****ms as if they are loaded.
4. Know your target, and what is beyond it.

And then, one of the General safety rules. "Do not handle your fi***rm unneccessarily."

Please people. It happened yet again today, where a person walked into the Gun Shop and unholstered his fi***rm in our reception area, even with a LARGE warning on the wall NOT to do it.

When requested to reholster, he became arrogant and stormed out.

We have a designated safe area where loading and unloading is performed. We don't need to see your fi***rm to sell am******on. All the information we need is on your licence card or printout.

I guess 90 days just seems too hard.... does this also apply to other applications such as Change of Responsible Person for companies?....The time keeps getting longer for applications to be processed! When do we say, "No more" and hold them to the standard THEY set in the FCA and stop making concessions as we go? With each concession, we get closer to the precipice where people just "give up"....because this is what concessions lead to in the end.

As always, the Govt is up to their "December Strategy"....Wake up people, while you have your parties and celebrations over December, your Safety and Security is being undermined and your Right to a Safe and Secure Environment, as guaranteed under the Constitution, blatantly ignored and trampled on....The Training that is currently provided to Citizens, is REGULATED and QUALITY ASSURED....If you want a chaotic South Africa....say nothing, and bear the consequences in the first steps to disarm the public. The burden of "Vicarious Liability" then shifts to the Government because THEY allowed these ludicrous "New Standards", and if anyone is injured, or worse....I hope they sue the crap out of the SAPS and ALL Security Clusters of Government, for contravening the Constitution.

I may have missed it, because I haven't seen any social media post about it yet....but here goes.

We had the World Cup in 2010. Crime dropped in the host cities while it was on (GFSA loves pedaling this narrative). Not because the government suddenly became competent — but because they flooded those areas with police resources for a few weeks. The moment the event ended and those resources were withdrawn, things slowly went back to normal.
We’re going to see the exact same thing in 2026. (I hope you take note GFSA)

Temporary policing is not a solution. It’s just a show for the cameras.

At the same time, we’re watching the government mess around with fi***rm training standards again. The Minister of Education was given a clear deadline to finalize the new training framework… and missed it. Again. Now there’s talk of lowering the standards instead of fixing the real problems.

This is dangerous.

Lowering training standards doesn’t just make it “easier” for people to get fi****ms. It means we’re going to have more fi***rm owners on the streets who are poorly trained, lack proper judgment, and don’t fully understand the responsibility that comes with carrying a gun. That directly affects the safety of every citizen — including the ones who don’t even own fi****ms.
We already have serious problems with police capacity and response times. If the state can’t properly protect its people, then responsible citizens need to be properly equipped and properly trained to protect themselves and their families. Removing Section 13 and weakening training standards at the same time is the worst possible combination.

You cannot lower the bar for who gets to carry a fi***rm and then act surprised when mistakes, negligence, and tragedies increase.

This isn’t about making it harder for criminals. Criminals don’t do training courses. This is about making sure that the people who are legally allowed to own and carry fi****ms actually know what the hell they’re doing.

Temporary police deployments won’t save us. Lowering standards definitely won’t either.

Just saying.

EDIT: Just after posting this.....I received a notification from South African Professional Fi***rm Trainers Council (PFTC) that SAQA extended the qualification for a further 6 months.
