Practice the art as a whole through kata, kumite and kihon.
Today, many people train kata and kumite as if they were two different things.
Actually kumite starts with kata, and kata starts with kumite."

The image depicts Gichin Funakoshi, widely recognized as the "father of modern karate," demonstrating a technique, possibly with his son, Gigō Funakoshi.
Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) was an Okinawan martial artist who introduced karate to mainland Japan in 1922.
He founded Shotokan karate, which is now the most widely practiced style of karate.
Funakoshi emphasized the philosophical aspects of karate, transforming it into "karate-do," the "way of the empty hand," focusing on character development.
His son, Gigō Funakoshi, is credited with developing the foundational techniques of the modern Shotokan style.
