FNB PBL - Projects Team Build 24/10/2016

Pase Harties Climbing Club was privileged to host a team build for First National Bank Private Lending Project team on Wednesday 19 October.

What an excellent team build it was with an energetic team full of competitiveness!!!

After a cup of coffee we went through some legal aspects, with a quick introduction to sport climbing by Keith Morris.
We split up into two teams to do some challenges on the wall.

Team B draw first blood...

Lunch at 12:00 saw a pleasantly tired but exited group munching away before the challenges started.

Team A used their length advantage and elasticity to advance and draw equal on points...ideal for a rematch???

Well, we hope you have enjoyed the day as much as we did and hope to see you soon back on the wall!!!

SANCF Nationals at City Rock - Competition feedback

The weekend of 1 - 2 October saw City Rock hosting the South African Nationals where five of our Provinces were represented.

Congratulations to our Northwest athletes who participated - the competition was strong but you all made it to the semi finals and finals, so well done!!

As athletes arrived via buses or being dropped off by parents, you could feel the excitement in the atmosphere. All the athletes received their competition number with a bag full of goodies accompanied by their very own SANCF certificate.

This year the U/11's were added to the competition for the first time, as Brett, mentioned, seems like it were a well worth it. Kids as young as nine competed, and did very well. From there the competition became serious as the U/13 to U/15 up to the opens, where the more senior athletes could compete.

The event was surprisingly relaxed, with great sportsman spirit, friendly athletes and spectators alike. The numerous cups of coffee's kept you well awake not to miss a beat. City Rock has good coffee and cappuccino's that is for sure!

The public could still use the facilities which just give you an idea of how big the climb gym is. Very well planned and set-up, and truly a five star facility to host such a prestigious event.

The climbers took my breath away, especially on those extreme overhangs, and where the overhang were not that extreme, its the tiny grips they received, that made my hands sweat. Just thinking of how hard those few seconds must be feeling- worse, the panic of knowing that you have but a few minutes to solve the entire routs problems! The surprises on the walls never disappointed, but the athletes who could make it, received even higher respect!

Apart from being in aw it is properly one of the best spectators sport in the world, you are pulled in to it, I can just see the amazement as our fellow citizens see speed climbing for the first time. My parents saw it on the telly one evening and couldn't wait to fill me in on this new thing...

This sport proved itself as one of the most versatile and fun ways to keep up your strength, fitness and flexibility, still being able to do things everybody thought could only be done by the young- is now an open playing field to both young and old.

I saw during this weekend, all the different cultures and races participating without any problem what so ever. Athletes were saluted for their brave efforts regardless of where they come from, and where do you find a sport where the spectators could lay on their backs watching their favorite sport!

Rules were strict, and we can expect it to become even more serious as the 2020 Olympics draw closer. As I could perceive from numerous knowledgeable people, our standard needs to rise a notch or two to be able to compete in the Olympic arena, and if I could make a quick personal comment, the quality people who are taking ownership of growing rock climbing in SA, will not leave a stone unturned to get our athletes there.

SANCF has been sending athletes oversees to compete in the international arena for the last five years, and the next group will be leaving in November to compete in China- our best wishes accompany them! This is but part of the efforts that is put into our athletes. And the amount of hours per week that these youngsters must give, to be on the level required for international climbing level, is a good indication of the success they already feel.

Rock climbing are not new, but never before has it been presented in this way as to make it an option to parents as a possible sport for their children to participate in. What we as parents realized is that although we climb indoors, we have the option opened to us suddenly, to climb also out in nature.
We required the necessary skills, because of our indoor experience which equipped us to be able to do much more. Tying knots, understanding safety, having all the gear, know what to do with it, its just awesome how our climbing venture broaden our horizons.
Another positive to keep in mind, especially to homeschooling kids, is the fact that they could receive their Protea colors for their efforts.
I can see a sport helping families to enjoy a healthier lifestyle in safety - even out there! An exercise which will keep you really fit and strong, as my 74 year old friend proofed on the wall to me- wow what a lady!
Special needs kids grow exponentially because of the nature of climbing, its like crawling for a baby- now just up a wall....

As you can see I am absolutely in favor of climbing, competing or just having fun, even as the only fitness routine for the family. As from one mom to you- mom or dad reading, go check this out with your loved ones, try a route or two, and let me know if you agree!

All of the best to you
Rina

Climbing Assessment at Mount Amanzi 14/08/2016

We were assessed on our climbing skills by Neil Margetts, and what a privilege to climb on a MCSA venue!
This was a full day which started early and finished late - but we only realised how tired we were when we arrived back home!!
The beauty of the area and the thrill of the sport really consume all your thoughts and energy - making it one of the most rounded sports to engage on. Thanks Neil for sharing your knowledge and assisting PHCC to be able to undertake this as a sport.
The knowledge we obtained here will be well applied within our Pase Harties Climbing Club - and training and exercises to embed these principles are imperative!

Cannot wait to test our new outdoor climbing venue this weekend with Neil Margetts! Will keep you posted and hopefully we can arrange a club climb soon......

PASE Harties Climbing Club Open Day 03/07/2016

Together with Impact Adventures PHCC held our very first open day and it was a huge success!! We hosted in excess of 30 climbers for the day who dared the cold and highs for the sake of adventure.... For most it was their first time for everything, and we saw a lot of bravery and tenacity from our youngsters, moms and dads.
Thank you to the past president of SANCF, George, who graciously helped in setting up the routes and to Rene for all the arrangements, gear and support.

This day will be marked as the day our club opened new territory in providing an opportunity to our local and neighboring communities to experience nature and natural climbing at its best!!

Well done to all who participated, supported and marketed our event. See you soon at the next climb.
Rina.

Gauteng Top Rope Competition - 3 June at Wonderwall
Pase Harties Climbing Club are so proud of our athletes who participated in round 2 of the Gauteng Provincial Competition, WELL DONE!!! We had 7 athletes competing and there are some serious talent!!!!
Well done and thank you for keeping the Club's name high!!

All the athletes were beginners, of whom the majority have never been exposed to a climbing wall, but wanted to be part of this experience, just to have fun.
We as PASE HCC were cordially invited by the SANCF and the Gauteng board to become part of the national structure by taking part in this friendly competition.

There are all together five legs of competition over five months, each focusing on different disciplines, which the athlete and couches choose from, during every leg, as to further their training in preparation for the national, and later the international competitions, which are held in different countries over the world.

The next Olympic games, to be held in Tokyo, will be introducing rock climbing as a new sport, and all eyes will be there to be the first to develop and to embark on a whole new and exciting opportunity.

For all our enthusiastic athletes in the North West Province, Hartbeespoort and surrounding areas, who is looking for something new and exciting, a sport that improves your overall health and fitness, and a sport which can stay part of your lifestyle unto old age, this is something that the whole family can participate in, and which will take you outdoors to enjoy our magnificent mountain ranges, with safety.

The adventure and adrenaline rush is huge, at the same time extremely de-stressing and pure fun. Make sure to contact us as we are in the process of opening different artificial and natural sport climbing stations in the area.

Hope to see you and your kids on the next round!

PHCC
