⛵️💙 HMYC YOUTH TRAINING CAMP — WHAT A WEEKEND! 💙⛵️

What an incredible weekend of sailing, learning, laughter and new experiences for our HMYC youth! 🌊⛵️

Our young sailors had an amazing time on the water, developing their skills, building confidence and, most importantly, having FUN with their sailing friends.

And the feedback from our parents says it all:

💬 “A HUGE thank you to everyone who made this weekend possible through their planning and volunteering. Our kids had the most amazing time and learned so much. What an incredible experience!”

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who made the camp possible — from the organisers Cornell and coaches to the parents and volunteers who gave their time, energy and expertise to make the weekend such a success. 🙌

These camps don’t happen without an incredible team behind the scenes, and we are so grateful for every person who helped make it happen.

Most importantly… look at those happy faces! 😍

Here’s to creating great memories, developing the next generation of sailors and building a strong HMYC youth sailing community. 💙⛵️

Well done, sailors — we are incredibly proud of you! 👏

⛵ THE FIRST-EVER MIDMAR CUP — WHAT A WEEKEND! 🏆

What an incredible weekend at Midmar Yacht Club for the very first Midmar Cup Inter-Club Regatta, held on 19–20 September 2026!

The Midmar Cup is the brainchild of HMYC’s own Tony Cockrill, who had the vision to create a regatta that combines competitive Hunter 19 sailing with youth development, inclusion and giving young people the opportunity to experience sailing.

The concept is simple but powerful: every team must have a youth sailor on board who helms at least two races, with those races being non-discardable. Teams must also include an additional youth sailor from a disadvantaged background, including orphanages, or a young person who has never experienced sailing — opening the sport to young people regardless of race, colour or creed. 💙⛵

🥉 AND WHAT A RESULT FOR HMYC!

🥇 1st — Hayden Miller
Puffin — RNYC
Sail No. 403 — 7 points

🥈 2nd — Luke Wagner
Guess Who — WYAC
Sail No. 2004 — 8 points

🥉 3rd — Tony Cockrill
Highlander — HMYC
Sail No. 2019 — 12 points

With four races sailed, there was plenty of close racing, learning and teamwork — and, most importantly, young sailors getting valuable time on the helm of a Hunter 19.

Thank you also needs to go to our race officer Paul Cooke, Nick and his team for getting in the 4 races in very tricky switchy wind conditions.

Here’s hoping this is the beginning of a very special new tradition on the KZN sailing calendar! 🌊⛵❤️

Well done to every sailor, youth crew member, club, volunteer and supporter who made the first Midmar Cup possible.
