🐢💀 ANSWER REVEAL!

Did you guess correctly? 👀

Here’s how to tell the difference between a terrapin skull and a tortoise skull:

🌊 Terrapin Skull

Sleeker and more streamlined
Often sharper edges for catching and eating a mixed diet (plants + small animals)
Adapted for life in water

🌿 Tortoise Skull

Shorter, stronger, and more robust
Built for crushing tough plant material
Perfectly designed for life on land

Every skull tells a story… and these two show just how perfectly animals are designed for their environment! 🦁

Friends, today is the last day we are running our Back a buddy campaign. We are trusting for at least another R2500 to be added to the generous donations that were made already. The schools are showing interest and we are excited to get going.

🦴 ANSWER REVEAL! 👀

Did you guess it?

✨ This skull belongs to an ANTBEAR (AARDVARK)!

🔍 Here’s what gave it away:
• The long, narrow snout – perfect for reaching into ant and termite nests
• No front teeth 😲
• Unique back teeth made of tiny tube-like structures
• A skull built for an incredible sense of smell

🧠 Did you know?
Even though it’s called an “antbear,” the aardvark is not closely related to anteaters or pangolins!

📚 It belongs to its own unique order called Tubulidentata — making it one of the most distinct mammals on Earth. Its closest relatives are actually animals like elephants and hyraxes, not other insect-eaters!

🦴 REVEAL + COMPARISON! 🐾

Did you guess it?

👉 The first skull is a Black-Backed Jackal
👉 Compared to the very different skull of an Aardwolf

At first glance they may look similar… but they belong to different families:

🐺 Black-Backed Jackal (Dog family)
🦷 Sharp teeth and a strong jaw—built for a varied diet including hunting and scavenging.

🪳 Aardwolf (Hyena family)
🦷 Small, reduced teeth—perfectly designed for feeding almost exclusively on termites.

Different families… different diets… completely different skull designs.

That’s the power of studying skulls 👀You can “read” how an animal lives just by looking at its structure.
