JBay Dolphins vs Mopani Worms – Bachelor’s Party Friendly Match Report

The JBay Dolphins marked chairman Danie Van Wyk’s bachelor’s party in style with a spirited friendly match against the Mopani Worms, producing an entertaining morning of cricket filled with big hitting, milestones, and plenty of laughs.

Mopani Worms Innings – 176/6 (20 overs)

After a gentleman's agreement on the toss, the Dolphins were immediately put under pressure by an aggressive Mopani Worms batting display.
The innings was built around several retired batters, a common feature of social and celebratory fixtures.
B. Mitha retired on a well-played 30 from 26 balls*, while D. Pillay also retired unbeaten on 30 from 24 deliveries*.
Valuable contributions came from M. Maistry (18) and L. Le Roux (14) as the Worms kept the scoreboard moving throughout the innings.

The Dolphins struck regularly enough to prevent a truly massive total. R. Thomas, D. Beyleveld, W. van Ryneveld, L. Bothma, C. der Westhuizen, and J. Putter each claimed a wicket, ensuring the Worms finished on a competitive 176/6.

The pick of the Dolphins’ bowlers was L. Bothma, who returned figures of 2 overs, 10 runs, 1 wicket, while several others chipped in with breakthroughs.

J-Bay Dolphins Innings – 144/6 (20 overs)
Chasing 177, the Dolphins got off to a cautious start. Our bachelor of the day Danie v Wyk fell early for 0, but Ruan Thomas steadied the innings and retired on 34* from 16 balls, playing an aggressive hand that briefly put the Dolphins ahead of the required rate.
The innings was then anchored by Digby Beyleveld, who produced one of the batting performances of the day. Beyleveld retired unbeaten on 30 from 26 balls, striking boundaries freely and keeping the Dolphins in contention.

Support came from Andrew Lomax (26*) Luciano Arries (7), Leon Leeu Bothma (6) and Chris Van Der Westhuizen(6), but the Worms bowlers gradually tightened their grip on the chase.

For the worms, C. Jangles was particularly effective, taking 2 wickets for 5 runs from 2 overs, while J. Chetty, C. van Heerden, and D. Pillay each picked up a wicket.

Despite a determined effort, the Dolphins closed on 144/6, falling 32 runs short of the target.

A Day Bigger Than the Result
While the scorebook records a victory for the Mopani Worms, the real winner was the occasion itself. The match was played in great spirit as friends, teammates, and family gathered to celebrate Danie van Wyk’s upcoming wedding. There were plenty of memorable moments recorded on the scoresheets, from sharp catches and wickets to milestone boundaries and good-natured banter.
The J-Bay Dolphins would like to thank the Mopani Worms for being part of the celebration and helping make Danie’s bachelor’s party a memorable day both on and off the field. Cricket was the excuse; friendship, laughter, and camaraderie were the true purpose of the occasion. 🏏🍻

This past weekend 05 July 2026 the Jbay Dolphins took to the field for their first winter leauge game against Walmer in the Coperate Leauge. In a close game on a warm Sunday morning, Jbay Dolphins captain, Danie Van Wyk won the toss and elected to bat first. After 20 overs Jbay Dolphins ended on 140-10. Top performances from:

Leon Leeu Bothma: 40(23)
Estiaan van Staden: 33(22)
Cobus DeWet: 19(9)
Chris Van Der Westhuizen: 14(12)

Walmer went into bat and in a close game with a close and nail biting game they were only able to get 123-5 in their 20 overs. In a brilliant bowling performance from the Jbay Dolphins these are some of the top performers:

Summerslam update:

Unfortunately, Jbay Dolphins did not qualify for the knockout stage of the Summerslam competition.

We now look forward to the upcoming winter league beginning later this month, as we aim for some good cricket from the guys!

Corporate League Summerslam Match Update:

The team travelled to Heatherbank Corp Cricket League in PE for their last fixture in the Summer Slam.

Jbay lost the toss and were put in to field on a pitch which proved to play much differently than it looked.
YCA were scoring at less than 5 an over at the half way stage before picking the pace up.

YCA eventually ended up on 115 for 4 after their 20 overs.
The Dolphins were ruthless in their reply, achieving the required runs in the 13th over and securing victory by 7 wickets.

The top performers with the bat were:
- Juan van Rooyen in his first outing for the team with a ruthless 34 off 16 balls including a massive six over long on causing play to be delayed by 10 minutes while the ball was being found!
- Leon Leeu Bothma with a composed and aggressive 33 off 14 balls
- Zane Woodland with 9 off 4 balls to seal the victory

With the ball the top performers were:
- Joahn Candrick Cairncross with a very economical 1 wicket for 8 runs off his two overs
- Henk Kotze with 1 wicket for 20 runs off his two overs

The win means that the Dolphins sit on two wins at the end of the group stage and we now await the final standings to determine if we qualify for the quarter finals.
