Day 2 of the NLC-funded National Basketball Clinics continued to deliver on the programme’s holistic development mandate, combining structured basketball skills training with a dedicated life skills session focused on mental health awareness.
Participants were guided through practical basketball fundamentals, alongside an interactive session titled “Taking Care of Your Mind,” which introduced age-appropriate concepts around emotional wellbeing, self-care, and support-seeking behaviour. This reflects the Academy’s commitment to using sport as a vehicle for broader youth development — equipping participants not only with athletic skills, but with tools to support their personal growth and resilience.
The inclusion of life skills programming alongside sport-specific coaching directly supports the National Lotteries Commission’s objective of funding initiatives that create meaningful, lasting community impact beyond the immediate scope of the activity.
The clinics will continue to roll out across identified communities, with the next session taking place in Soweto.
