“On a trad climb, there are all the emotions of Shakespeare: Love, joy, desire, passion, conquest, failure, tragedy and comedy.”
Listen to the episode to hear Andy Wood talk about emotions, shakespear, the winie climbing partners who never got another invite and some hilarious voice impressions!
Andy has been climbing for a long time, right across the world - the Himalayas, Rockies, Alps to Yosemite and most recently Sqaumish. While, the guest host for this episode, Tim Larsen, a 22 year old whipper snapper, has rampaged through the climbing scene, mentored by Andy and others.
In this conversation, the pair chart the history of trad climbing on Table Mountain and the Western Cape. From the first ascent of Arrow Final, in 1985, to Mary Poppins, a breathtaking 31/32 on trad and many inspiring first accents in between. They take us from Kindergarten to Matric.

"Aw man, I could totally climb that!"... We've all had that thought when seeing a particularly climbable feature. And hey, oftentimes we CAN totally climb that. But it's good to remember that even the best-planned climbing missions have an element of danger and vulnerability. There's no way to know all the conditions you're up against, and that's why you'll always need your local search and rescue phone number handy - as you'll learn in our next episode.
Next Wednesday, we are officially back after a 3-month break with a saucy story you've all been waiting to hear.

Episode comes out 26 Oct.
