Reward yourself!
The weekend brings one of our first proper cold fronts. This is a great opportunity to catch a changing environment, there’s a stillness in the crisp air and dreamlike glass water.

Modderfontein Reserve and Taroko Trails really do show off during these weather patterns.
Dress for the occasion and attend

Do you know?

Today is a celebration with a rare calendar crossover, World Bicycle Day and Global Running Day land on the exact same date: June 3, 2026.

While World Bicycle Day is on June 3rd every year, Global Running Day steps to the first Wednesday of June, marking today as the ultimate double-feature of human movement.

Some history of these two days:

World Bicycle Day 🚴‍♂️ Established by the UN in 2018 following a global grassroots campaign, this day honors a 200-year-old, eco-friendly mode of transportation. Its benefits range from slashing carbon emissions to boosting cardiovascular health and aiding metabolic wellness.

Global Running Day 🏃‍♀️ Officially launched internationally in 2016 alongside the “Million Kid Run,” this day celebrates running as an accessible, zero-equipment sport on earth. It’s a powerful tool for building muscular endurance, relieving stress, and connecting local communities.

Whether you are pedaling your commute or logging miles on the pavement, enjoying the trails, being in nature or entering events.
Today is all about celebrating human-powered motion, movement IS medicine.

How are you moving today, all of the above or a single flavour? Drop your vibes in the comments below!

Your weekend ventures start here, step out!

As seen here our trails team have been hard at work rehabilitating trails. Especially by expanding drainage and reinforcing crossings. We’ve also taped off areas that still require attention.
An exciting addition are some new point of interest codes with augmented VR thanks to
Scan with your camera, load the app and wait for the magic!

Happy trails!

No litter/vandalism - No noise/music speakers - No alcohol/substances

PLEASE! ⚠️🚮

Respect yourselves and the space you’re in. We work hard to keep the trails and Modderfontein Reserve maintained, including placing rubbish bins throughout the reserve and trail network.

Sadly, the litter in these images was collected within the first 100 metres of trail and less than 50 metres from the nearest bin.

What makes it even more frustrating is that this section has recently undergone major trail rehabilitation by our trail team, including the installation of more than ten bridges of various sizes. They’re here to build and maintain trails, not clean up after others , although too often they have to. This also creates a knock on effect on attending to the environment.

We know this comes down to a small number of careless visitors, so please help us keep an eye out and call it out when you see it.

Let’s continue working together to protect and enjoy keeping this an unspoilt space

It does not go unnoticed!
