The South African junior teams are currently competing at the ITF/CAT Zonal Competition U/14 and U/16 being hosted in Gaborone, Botswana, from 10 to 19 January 2026.
The U/14 boys team includes Tristan Summers, Alec Koch, and Mpho Bowers, while the U/14 girls team features Gabriella Coetzee, Wendy Modiba, and Kamogelo Plaatjie. In the U/16 category, the boys team is made up of Jamie Roux, Jack Thornhill, and Veer Trikamjee, with Charlotte Bouwer, Lyndsey Philipps, and Morakane Molaoa representing the girls.
The team is led by national coaches Terrey Schweitzer, Kyla Yelverton, Kgotso Matshego, and Sabelo Mathebula, who are guiding the players throughout the competition.
The individual event has now concluded, with Team South Africa delivering an outstanding performance by claiming gold and silver medals across all sections. In the U/16 girls singles, Charlotte Bouwer secured first place, followed by Morakane Molaoa in second and Lyndsey Philipps in third.
The U/14 girls singles saw Wendy Modiba take gold, with Gabriella Coetzee finishing second and Kamogelo Plaatjie in third.
On the boysβ side, Jamie Roux claimed top honours in the U/16 singles, with Jack Thornhill finishing second and Veer Trikamjee placing sixth. The U/14 boys delivered another dominant showing, with Tristan Summers taking first place, Alec Koch second, and Mpho Bowers third.
With the individual event wrapped up, attention now turns to the team competition, which gets underway today. We wish Team South Africa the very best as they continue to compete and make the nation proud. πΏπ¦
