The prevalence of crimes against women in the country has once again hit the headlines following the gruesome killing of Namhla Ntwa, a 33-year-old woman from Mthatha, Eastern Cape who was shot 9 times in her driveway. It’s alleged that she has shown evidence of abuse by her partner to the police, but nothing was done. GBV statistics in Mthatha are rising at a rapid rate: ·       The latest crime statistics show that more than 900 women in South Africa were killed in just three months. ·       Though under-reported on average, 123 r**e cases are reported daily in South Africa   Most cases of femicide are committed by partners or ex-partners, and involve ongoing abuse in the home, threats or intimidation, sexual violence, or situations where women have less power or fewer resources than their partner.   FHS has played a pivotal role in supporting victims of GBV and in collaboration with Arts In Action, they have created interventions which can’t be active without support from other government structures. In March 2022, FHS was asked to be one of the strategic partners of the Anti-GBVF Imbizo change behavioral dialogues on the subject of the scourge of GBVF.
