Fascia is the only system in the human body that exists in direct relationship with every other system and structure in the body.
Blood.
Fluid.
Muscle.
Bone.
Organs.
Nerves.
Breath.
Movement.
Everything is held within and communicated through the fascial web.
If you change the fascia, you influence the entire body.
Fascia is far more than connective tissue. It is the bodyโs living matrix, intelligent, adaptive, responsive, and constantly communicating with every aspect of our human experience.
It holds the record.
Our injuries.
Our emotions.
Our trauma.
Our conditioning.
Our stress patterns.
Our posture.
Our movement.
Our survival responses.
Our stories.
Fascia IS the body that keeps the score.
The body remembers everything the mind attempts to forget.
Fascia is true muscle memory. It remembers every repetition, every compensation, every contraction, every movement pattern and coordination practiced throughout a lifetime.
What we live through becomes embodied.
This is why deep fascial work can create emotional release. Why breathwork can unlock grief. Why trauma lives in the body long after the event has passed. Why nervous system regulation changes physical structure. Why movement, bodywork, yoga, somatics, touch, and breath can create profound shifts simultaneously across the mind, body, and spirit.
Fascia is not only physical.
Emerging research into fasciaโs conductive, piezoelectric, and liquid crystalline properties is beginning to echo what ancient healing systems have understood for centuries: the body is not separate parts. It is an interconnected field of communication, energy, intelligence, and consciousness.
Fascia is the bridge between body and spirit. The interface between energy and matter. The architecture of human experience itself.

Anyone else not mentally or emotionally prepared for this winter? ๐คฃ๐ฅถ The cold weather sucks!
Aah well at least I get to wear my unicorn beanie on the coldest of days with no shame or f's to give!!! ๐ฆ ๐คฃ
I have to share a story about a lovely lady who contacted me a while back searching for some relief from the pain she has been living with for years. After a serious car accident and being hit on the right hand side, that entire side of her body has been in a spasm. She has seen all the doctors and physios and and and to assist her with her pain and their final conclusion was this. There is nothing more they can do to help her and they suggested botox injections into her body which would cost R6500 a pop and they would need to be repeated every six months!!! Like what the actual??? How is the medical industry suggesting such BS and not helping her fix the real issue? That is just a plaster! ๐คฏ
Because they do not know much about fascia and the power it holds. Fascia is a pretty new buzz word in the health industry and when they did their studies it wasnt around.
After just one session my client had a massive aha moment. Using the tools made her realise that she has found the issue and can now help repair her body and bring it back into alignment and start living pain free!! ๐ฅณ๐ฉท
She has opted to come for a few private sessions to learn exactly what to do, so she can buy the kit and do the unwinding at home. This is exactly why I love myofascial release, its not a permanent thing that you spend money on and constantly come back for more and more sessions, throwing your cash down the drain.
Its a powerful practise that you can do in the privacy of your own home, whenever the bodies starts to whisper 'look here I need some TLC'. All it does is put you back in the driver's seat so you can manage and reduce your pain, stiffness and knots yourself!!! Plus you have the added benefit of relieving anxiety, improving flexibility, calming the nervous system and working through old traumas that the body is still holding onto.
Now tell me thats not a win win situation? ๐

I invited my Mom over today for her first myofascial release session. We started on the feet, which is always our first go to point. The pain was intense for her, we had to go really gently. ALWAYS LISTENING TO THE BODY! ๐ฅฐ As we sat down the nausea and dizziness hit her quickly. Just from a few minutes of working on the bottom of her feet. Nausea can be triggered by the release of metabolic waste or the "unwinding" of deep physical tension. We waited until she felt better after some very deep breathes and then moved up to the glutes and lower back. The dizziness returned and we called it a day. Just a mere 15 to 20 minutes using the equipment and she felt a massive shift in her body. Her anxiety was lower and was eager to take a ball home to do some more work on her feet.
The shock that most people feel when they get onto the equipment is all the knowledge that I need, knowing that their fascia NEEDS unwinding.
My next group class session is being held on Tuesday the 19th of May at 5.30pm in studio at Jukskei Park.

Mother's day, a day that reminds us of the relationships we have with our Moms. I know most mother and daughter relationships are filled with conflicting emotions. So much stuff unsaid and so many years of pain and even trauma that we dont talk about.
My own relationship with my Mom has been fraught with struggle, immense grief, sadness and of course love. As we grow older and wiser we continue to traverse this journey and constantly wish to heal this relationship. We grow inside of our mothers when in the womb, we are one for many months, we absorb their heartache, we breathe the very air they breathe and we live within the ocean of their soul. After years of healing and growing we have to look at back at their lives and observe how they grew up. What was their relationship like with their own mother? We have to awaken to the fact that they probaly have their own mother wound that they are carrying around within them. That they did their absolute best they could with what they had at the time and still do. โค๏ธ
For the past month I have been dealing with a massive shift within my own spirit and body, specifically in my hips on my left hand side which is the feminine energy. I have done hours of myofascial release work to let go of a pain that has been holding on and not wanting to shift. After an incredible body talk session with the marvelous Caroline Linton she helped me understand why I was in so much pain. She helped me release some heartache as well as ground me back into my own feminine power by connecting me to Mother Earth. ๐๐ฅฐ
This morning I spent over an hour doing a deeply meditave myofascial release. As I travelled through my fascial system with my eyes closed, I had a deep connection to my ability to stand in my own power. To ground myself in the knowledge and immense wisdom as well as the love I carry within me. I connected to each and every stage of myself, from a small girl to the 47 year old woman that I am today. Understanding that I can mother myself into who I want to be and support every age of the little girls within, who may have felt neglected, scared or alone.
Healing takes time, it takes a willingness to be vulnerable and gift yourself the love that you so deserve in whichever way that speaks to your soul.
As I lay on the tools with the wind roaring through the trees and the wind chimes singing in the distance, I opened myself up to the love I so longed for, and I allowed it to fill my entire being. I opened myself up to the gratitude for my Mother and her own struggles she has experienced throughout her own personal journey. I love her and appreciate the powerful woman that she is, she has taught me many, many things for which I will be eternally grateful. She has gifted me the ability to choose my own spiritual path and taught me what strength is all about. โค๏ธ
Whatever your relationship is with your own Mother, I wish for you peace, kindess and patience with yourself to know that you too can heal that wound. The inner child that has been waiting for 'that' love that you so yearned for is still there. And YOU have the power to give it to her, if you just take some time to connect with and be vulnerable, she will appear. ๐ฅฐ
To each and every Mom out there, I wish you love, appreciation and strength. I think being a Mom in this day and age is one of the most thankless and hardest things you can do. You are all super women! ๐ฅ
Treat yourselves with care today beautiful souls, and remember that your journey is unique to you. โจ๏ธ

Since I began self myofascial release almost two years ago I have noticed a huge shift in my body awareness. The fascia specifically. It feels almost like I have a living, intelligent, jelly fish within my entire body. Almost like the 'ghost' in the machine. The state of my fascia determines my comfort levels throughout the day, from how deeply I can sink into my yoga poses to simple things like walking and my ability to move with ease. In my last myofascial group class session, I mentioned to everyone how it sends me signals almost every day. Its like a super highway of communication, constantly singnalling me to areas of my body that are in dis-ease.
While having a conversation with someone I got a little electric pulsing in my calve and its like the fascia waving at me saying 'hi please attend to this area'. As soon as I get the chance I grap my tools and start releasing that adhesion.
The other night while lying in bed, there was a small electrical pulse on the side of my shoulder blade and I knew I had to get in there. Next day I lay on the massage ball and compressed the area for a while and the pain was sharp and had moments of intense heat. But I got it out, I let it go and the area became quiet and still.
Our fascia stores memories, trauma and years of bad postural alignment, it remembers every injury we experience and needs to be unwound in order to function optimally. ๐
Think of how many years of 'stuff' our bodies are carrying around within it. Doing its best to keep us 'together'.
Unfortunately the system cannot maintain that kind of battle forever and we end up with chronic pain and extreme tightness in our bodies. ๐ค
If I work on one area, say the hip for example, I can literally feel the fascia begin to release in my shoulder. As its all connected, like a big beautiful spider wed holding us together. When fascia becomes dry and starts to clump together it disrupts the flow so we aren't getting hydrated in the correct way and it causes adhesions in the system.
Some days I notice things get worse before they get better, but its always an incredible release when working on the tools. Last week I lay on my peanut on my sacrum, I just allowed gravity to do the work for me as I focused on my deep belly breathes. There was no pain but I was called to focus there and within a minute the flood gates open. I cried from the very core of my soul and 'something' that had been stored there was released. Eventually the tears subsided and the nausea arrived. Not extreme but enough to know that whatever toxicity and emotions were in that area had been let go.
This is why I will continue to do a daily practise of myofascial release. To constantly work through, that which no longer serves so I can be my most true, raw, authentic self without all that bull s**t that burdens me and causes me pain. ๐ซ

About a year ago we went away with some friends for a weekend. Sitting around the fire one evening having a chat, the topic of yoga came up and I mentioned that I teach yoga. The one guy looks at me and says, 'You teach yoga?' with that typical shocked look that I have become so accustomed to seeing on people's faces when I confirm this. He then continues to ask 'so you only teach (and makes a shape around him, to indicate bigger) people'? I heard my boyfriend take a deep breathe in and I sighed internally. ๐ฎโ๐จ Here we go again....
After gaining my composure, I gently explained to him that I teach EVERYONE yoga, small, big, young, old, dark, light, bi, straight, male, female, trans, gay etc.
Eyes still wide in disbelief that im telling the truth, I invited him to come and join in on one of my classes. Needless to say he didnt arrive. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
The ignorance of normal sized people that automatically think because I am a bigger woman, I am only capable of teaching other bigger people yoga drives me a bit dilly. To be fair I am old enough and mature enough to understand this is his uneducated view of what yoga is all about and an indication of how it is portrayed in the media. Skinny or very slim woman dressed in lycra with 6 packs and a body to die for. Clearly this is not true.
We need to stop putting people into ridiculous boxes designed by the media, we need to start seeing that each and every single one of us has a purpose on this planet. Regardless of our outward appearances, we are all souls traversing this majestic life in a way that feels true to ourselves. And its imperative that we follow our hearts calling, regardless of what 'they' may say. ๐ฅ๐ซ
So if you are you are interested in coming to one of my yoga classes, where you will feel accepted for who you are and not judged by the shape, colour, gender of your body. Then I invite you to join me with open arms and an open heart to come and move, be present and connect with the breathe. Gain strength, flexibility in body and mind and connect with your entire beautiful being. ๐
We are experiencing turbulent times in the world. We are finding ourselves being pulled in so many different directions and living in our minds and spending far too much time on social media.
The best place to return to is the body with movement, where you can disconnect from the outside chaotic world. Human connection and being apart of a community of like minded, caring people is what is needed now. And yoga helps do that with such grace and love. ๐ฉต
