🚣 Old Eds Rowing: Celebrating Achievement, Honouring Legacy

A strong showing for Old Eds at the Erg Regatta hosted by St Andrew’s Girls on 18 September! 💪

🏆 Senior Men’s 2000m: Nic Steensma took the win.
🥇 Masters Women: Darcy Carpenter claimed first place, with Shelby Bruce finishing second.
🏆 Masters Women’s Relay: Another win for Old Eds!

Alongside celebrating these achievements, the Boat Club mourns the loss of former member Mike Hasselbach, who passed away recently.

Mike rowed for Old Eds from the late 1980s until his retirement in 2000, winning numerous national titles and representing South Africa at two Olympic Games — Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. A multiple-time Old Eds Sportsperson of the Year, Mike leaves behind an extraordinary legacy on the water and within the club.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for his sporting excellence, fierce competitive spirit and lasting contribution to rowing.

Celebrating our rowers today, remembering a legend always. 💙

🏃‍♀️ TOMORROW, WE’RE STEADYING IT AGAIN!

Not the fastest. Not the fanciest. Just a group of people putting one foot in front of the other — together. 💚

The Steady Eddies are back tomorrow morning at 05:30!

Whether you’re:
👟 New to running
🚶 More of a run/walk kind of person
🐢 A slower-paced runner
💪 Getting back into it
🤝 Or simply looking for a group that won’t leave you behind…

This one’s for you.

We’ll take on a shorter route, build in walking breaks where needed, keep the group together and finish with coffee and good company.

No pressure. No chasing the pack. No worrying about being “too slow”.

Just your pace, your people, the whole way.

🏆 WHAT. A. SEASON. 🏆

As another incredible season draws to a close, there’s plenty to celebrate at Old Eds Football Club.

Five of our teams have been crowned Premier League division winners — congratulations to our U7, U8, U9, U10 and U15 teams! 👏⚽️

Five teams. Five titles. One very proud club.

But beyond the trophies, this season has been about so much more: watching our players grow, seeing teams develop, building confidence, learning resilience and, most importantly, enjoying the beautiful game together.

Off the pitch, our Fundraising Movie Night and Dads Take on the Coaches brought the Old Eds community together — with plenty of laughs, questionable challenges and thankfully, no major casualties. 😂

And we’re not quite done yet…

Several teams are still heading into their cup finals, so there’s one more chapter to write. 🏆

To our players, coaches, managers, parents and supporters — thank you for making this season one to remember.

Here’s to an incredible season… and hopefully a few more trophies before we call it a wrap. 💙⚽️

🇿🇦 Happy Heritage Day from Old Eds! 💙

Today, we celebrate the many cultures, traditions, stories and backgrounds that make our club what it is.

We may come from different places, speak different languages, celebrate different traditions and have our own stories to tell — but on the field, the track and around the club, sport brings us together. 🏃‍♀️🏉🏏🏑

It’s the teammates beside us, the supporters cheering us on, the friendships made, the rivalries shared and the moments we celebrate together that make Old Eds feel like home.

Here’s to the diversity that makes our club stronger, and to the sport that gives us a common ground. ❤️🇿🇦

Happy Heritage Day, Old Eds family!
