Every bike tells a story. This one's been standing still for years but not anymore 🔥
Starting with the frame, mixed alloy, which is still around today but you'll mostly find it on hardtails now. Back then it was just how bikes were built, and there's something cool about seeing where things started before everything got so specialised.
The gear levers are mounted on the down tube, which isn't something you see much these days. It's a completely different way of shifting, and honestly, a fun reminder of how much design has evolved.
We couldn't replace the STI hoods with anything modern, they're specific to the brand and the era. So we left them exactly as they were and just gave them the best clean we could manage. Some things are worth keeping original.
Years of standing meant some cosmetic rust had built up, so we spent time carefully polishing the chrome back to life. Slow work, but worth it to see it shine again without a single scratch.
Probably our favourite detail though, the hubs. Suntour, sealed bearings, and genuinely ahead of their time. They're still spinning smoothly after all these years, which says everything about how well this bike was made.
Even the tyres are original, 23C Continentals, which tells us this one's actually been serviced and looked after within the last decade, not just left to gather dust the whole time.
Hard-wearing, purpose-built, and full of small design choices that still hold up. Projects like this are exactly why we love what we do. 🐺
