SEPTEMBER HAS STARTED WITH A BANG!

What a weekend! I was as prepared as I could possibly be, but you guys had other plans!

The Lawn Dressing that I had readily available? Nearly gone.

Another order is already on the way, because you all decided your lawns needed some serious attention this weekend.

The nursery is absolutely buzzing and I am so incredibly happy and grateful for all the support you are giving me. I may have given myself more than I can chew with this nursery… but don’t worry, I AM CHEWING!

Next week I should also be getting in some lovely summer herbs and vegetables, so if you are planning your summer veggie garden, come and have a look. Also we have raided garden beds for sale by order.

And with Friday bringing us some rain, don’t forget to come and get your plants and Lawn Dressing ready before the heavens open.

Now, for those of you who watched Terry putting soil into a car…Please don’t laugh.

I KNOW I LOOKED STUPID.

Im there with my short little self trying to pick up 20 bags of soil. At some point I had to question whether I was actually working at a nursery or participating in an extreme sport.

But hey… the bags got moved, the car survived and Terry is still standing!

If there is a specific flower seedling you are looking for, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY THIS AFTERNOON so I can try to add it to the orders.

Ya no… I’m working for my paper! This is big people things now!

But seriously, what an amazing start to September. Thank you to every single person who has come through the gates, bought something, shared a post, recommended us, sent someone our way or simply popped in for a chat.

Sylvia Pass Nursery is growing, and it is because of YOU.

Come see what’s happening. The nursery is buzzing!

HERBS, VEGGIES AND A LITTLE BIT OF GARDENING THERAPY THIS SATURDAY!

gardeners, Saturday 15 August is our Herb & Veggie Workshop at Sylvia Pass Nursery and I think it’s time we started getting serious about growing some food! So if you never know what to plant, or how to plant it please join us.

There is something ridiculously satisfying about walking into your garden, picking something you grew yourself and then throwing it into dinner. IT just taste better for some reason.

No supermarket trolley. No checking whether the coriander is R45 a bunch this week. No buying a packet of seeds and then leaving it in the cupboard for three years because you forgot what you bought it for.

This workshop is perfect if you are a complete beginner and have absolutely no idea where to start, or if you’ve been growing things for years but still occasionally stand staring at your vegetables wondering why the bloody things aren't behaving.

We’ll be talking herbs, veggies, growing, planting and all the things you need to know to get your own little edible garden going.

And spring is around the corner, people.

Which means NOW is the time to start thinking about what you want growing in your garden.

So come spend some time with us, learn something useful, get your hands dirty and leave with a little more confidence about growing your own food.

For those who dont have space to plant, i also rent out allotment space so u can do ur own veggies. so if thats an idea then come for the workshop too.

Today is the day.

At 11:00 I'm officially pretending to be a qualified macramé instructor.

I've made enough macramé plant hangers over the past few months that people started asking, "When are you doing classes?"

So, like any perfectly sensible person, I said, "Absolutely! I can teach that."

Tiny problem...

Teaching and actually knowing how to do something are apparently two completely different skills.

My brilliant plan was to spend this week practising every knot, every step, every possible mistake that a beginner could make.

That plan was flawless.

Unfortunately, I was so busy running the nursery that I didn't practise once.

Not. One. Single. Time.

So today's workshop is either going to be an inspiring journey into the wonderful world of macramé...

..or you're all going to watch me stare at a piece of rope while quietly questioning every life decision that brought me here.

If I accidentally invent a new knot, we're calling it "designer."

If I get lost halfway through, confidence is key. I'll just say, "This is the advanced technique."

If everything falls apart... we'll put a plant in it and call it rustic.

On the bright side, I have created the most beautiful little corner in the nursery to show how these hangers can transform a space in your home. It isn't completely finished yet, but I'm ridiculously proud of how it's coming together, and I'll post a photo later today.

So wish me luck.

By this afternoon I'll either be known as "that amazing macramé teacher"...

..or the woman who accidentally tied herself to a table while twelve people politely pretended everything was going according to plan.

Either way, it'll be a good story.

I have a confession...

I don't go near roses.

They're beautiful. They smell amazing. They whisper sweet romantic nothings, people write songs about them, propose with them, plant entire rose gardens because they're just so dreamy...
Then you get close.

Those things are armed.

One minute you're admiring a flower and the next you've donated blood to the rose bush. I don't trust them. They're gorgeous little hazards with anger issues.

But here's the thing... Gareth absolutely loves them. He speaks fluent rose. He knows which branches have overstayed their welcome, which ones need to go, and how to give them the haircut that has them bursting into flower again.

And did you know that, with the right care, many roses flower in flushes every four to six weeks during summer? That's a lot of flowers for something that's trying to stab you.

So if you've ever looked at your roses and thought, "Now what?" this workshop is for you.

Join Gareth on Saturday, 19th July at 10:00am at Sylvia Pass Nursery for a practical, hands-on Rose Pruning Workshop. Bring your questions, bring your secateurs if you've got them, and prepare to leave with the confidence to tackle your own roses.

Now here's the dangerous part...
This workshop has me thinking.

I'm seriously considering having a Rose Sale at the nursery.

Mmmm... let me see if I can find a rose supplier first.

Knowing me, I'll fall in love with them from a safe distance, Gareth can deal with the thorny relationships, and I'll just stand there admiring all the pretty flowers.

WhatsApp 061 805 9761 to book your spot.

Who knows... this might just be the beginning of a beautiful relationship with roses. From a safe distance, of course.
