ABOUT THE TEACHER
FIONA holds the IMPERIAL SOCIETY OF TEACHERS OF DANCE Associate Diploma qualification (Cecchetti Method) with Full Registration in London, and is currently working on her Licentiate qualification. She achieved 98% for her Licentiate Related subjects Anatomy and Physiology Paper. She also holds Associate status in Ballet, Modern and Tap with the Theatre Dance Association. Fiona ha

s the Progressing Ballet Technique advanced qualification (Australia and USA) and holds a Jaxz-Ed teaching qualification. She has 40+ years experience teaching all levels and for 7 years was the senior teacher at Joburg Ballet’s Development School and was the coordinator for 3 years. In this capacity she taught disadvantaged children from Soweto, Braamfontein, Hillbrow, Tembisa and Alexandra. Fiona worked in Industry for several years in Quality Control, Packaging Technology and Industrial Safety and Hygiene. She has also worked in the field of Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and helped to run a half way house for women coming out of rehabilitation. Fiona is an Accredited Senior Adjudicator with the National Eisteddfod of South Africa, and has adjudicated festivals around the country. Fiona has produced several professional dancers who have gone on to careers in Johannesburg, Korea, Australia and America, as well as achieving medalist status in International competitions world wide. The iLanga Youth Dance Co has two additional teachers, Miss Janine Campbell teaching HipHop and Miss L'Oréal Oliphant teaching Contemporary. Fiona has recently registered the iLanga Centre for Young Performers a non profit project aimed at providing opportunities for talented children whose parents are unable to afford fees. Fiona has joined forces with several highly qualified educational specialists to form BrainyKids, a programme designed to ensure that children are properly prepared for the critical skills needed for school readiness. Fiona is a member of the Meyerton Ward 15 Councillor's committee representing the Arts Sector.

Our Story

She has 37 years’ experience teaching all levels and for 7 years was the senior teacher at Joburg Ballet’s Development Schools in Soweto, Inner City and Alexandra and for three years was the company’s Head of Department for the Satellite Schools. Fiona is also a teaching member of the Theatre Dance Association, Modern faculty. Fiona worked in Industry for several years in Quality Control, Packaging Technology and Industrial Safety and Hygiene. She has also worked in the field of Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and helped to run a halfway house for women coming out of rehabilitation. Fiona is a Senior Accredited Adjudicator and has adjudicated for The National Eisteddfod, the Pretoria Eisteddfod of the Performing Arts, and the Theatre Dance Association in Cape Town. She is a fully registered Progressing Ballet Technique Advanced Level coach.
