I've been exposed to weightlifting and strength most of my life.. I love the purity in strength and I enjoy taking people past their barriers!

My focus has shifted primarily to the bench press for various reasons. It has been great to start benching in the shirt again

It not only pleases me to see the growth of weightlifting in SA, but it is so rewarding to see my 'brand' in weightlifting expanding! DA Weightlifting had 35 athletes compete at Gauteng Weightlifting Champs, where we collected 4 golds, 2 silvers and a bronze! I'll have 15 athletes representing at this year's SA Champs! This sport is tough and it is inspiring to see how many people are constantly progressing and pushing themselves to improve! If you are looking for info on sessions, seminars, etc get in touch!

WATER CUT
I've been asked to post something about water cutting to make weight for competition.. Water cuts vary quite drastically from sport to sport, with special attention on the time between weigh in and competition! The following is my opinion on the matter along with how I have done my water cuts for competition!

Firstly if you have a 2 hour weigh in, I personally don't think cutting more than 2kg of water is wise, possibly 2,5kg maximum! In my experience any cut bigger than this had a negative impact on my performance! Pulling out too much water increases risk of injury and cramping, and it sapped my leg power! Once again, bear in mind, I am not talking about 24+ hour weigh ins.

About 2 weeks out from competition I increase my water intake to approximately 3 litres of water (excludes training in take). 7 days before competition I increase water in take to between 6 to 8 litres per day (excludes training in take). In the last week I have 1 slow mag fizzy per day, 1 sachet of rehydrate per day and between 4g to 6g of vitamin C per day!

The night before competition I will "cut" water completely! The time I stop drinking depends entirely on the actual weigh in time, as I personally don't like to have more than 6 to 8 hours awake without water!

Just before bed and first thing in the morning I get into a hot bath with Epsom salts for approximately 8 minutes each!

Most of my recent cuts my weight drops more than I needed so then ill immediately start sipping water with slow mag and rehydrate and even eat light foods.

I have seen very drastic methods used to cut water weight but for a 2 hour weigh in, I wouldn't push extremes!

I hope this helps anyone in need..
