Alberton AC mourns the passing of Jaco Van Der Merwe, who tragically lost his life during a house robbery on Wednesday 27 May - a day before his birthday.

We extend our deepest condolences to his partner Amanda Du Rand who is also a member of AAC, as well as all his loved ones.

Jaco will be remembered as a kind, soft spoken and humble person, and he will be dearly missed - not least of all at this year's ComradesMarathon start line, where he was looking forward to lining up for his back-to-back medal.

May his memory always be a blessing to everyone who knew him. Rest in peace Jaco! 🪽☀️🪽

As the mileage builds and the alarms get earlier, we’re cheering you on as training ramps up for Two Oceans Marathon and ComradesMarathon.

It is with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of Andries Venter. An honorary member and absolute legend of our club, he served as chairman from 1992 - 1996, and again from 1998 - 2017.

He holds the record for most completed Comrades runs with 32 — of which 18 were silver. His best time was 6:24, recorded at the 1991 down run.

He also won the 1994 Washie 100-Miler on his debut run at that event. But apart from his many impressive accomplishments, Andries will be remembered for his selfless service, guidance, and mentorship of countless runners throughout the years.

Condolences to his family and all his friends — may he rest in peace 🙏🏼🕯️
