With the historic 100th Comrades Marathon on the horizon, Alberton Athletic Club invites local residents to be part of something special. Train alongside a community built on camaraderie, experience, and shared goals. At AAC, you’ll run with athletes who have conquered this race time and again. The club’s 13 honorary members alone boast over 150 Comrades medals between them — including an impressive 41 silvers.

Congratulations to all our runners who took part in the ultimate human race this past Sunday. At this, the 99th Edition of ComradesMarathon and the 50th Up Run, the first Alberton runners home were Khulekani (Elias) Ndhlovu and Anton Ferreira, crossing the line together in a time of 07:49:23. The first female was Jesika Joubert in 10:14:00 on her debut Comrades. The first novice overall was Cullen Reyneke in 08:59:00. 🖤💛

JACO VAN DER MERWE

Alberton AC mourns the passing of Jaco Van Der Merwe, who tragically lost his life during a house robbery on Wednesday 27 May - a day before his birthday.

We extend our deepest condolences to his partner Amanda Du Rand who is also a member of AAC, as well as all his loved ones.

Jaco will be remembered as a kind, soft spoken and humble person, and he will be dearly missed - not least of all at this year's ComradesMarathon start line, where he was looking forward to lining up for his back-to-back medal.

May his memory always be a blessing to everyone who knew him. Rest in peace Jaco! 🪽☀️🪽
