A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AWAITS

With the success of South Africa’s latest unified female WBC and IBO world champion, Bernice “The Badger” Ferreira, for NO DOUBT Management, the focus now shifts to former two-time IBF world champion, Sivenathi “The Special One” Nontshinga. She faces Regie Suganob on 12 September in Bohol, Philippines, in the ordered final eliminator for the world IBF junior flyweight title.

There is great energy within the company following recent success from Sikho “Sequence” Nqothole, who won his final IBF world title eliminator in the UK against hot favourite Charlie Edwards in the super flyweight division. This was followed by an upset victory for Ferreira, who created African female history by becoming the first female African to become a unified world champion.

Colin Nathan is always quick to say that “success breeds success”—and he is not wrong.

This week, Nontshinga was hard at work in the gym, looking incredibly sharp and focused.

Shannon Strydom and Nathan were fully locked in on his training sessions, ensuring they covered all bases. The pair were also heard discussing the game plan they have for Nontshinga at the Hot Box Gym.

On Wednesday, Nontshinga sparred with Nqothole and Frank Sotomela, with both Strydom and Nathan satisfied with how everything is coming together.

This past Friday, Nontshinga did sparring and mitt work at the Apex Gym. Yesterday, Nathan was seen pushing “The Special One” to his limit.

With the fight edging closer, Nontshinga is looking to put in a special performance and win in the Philippines. He wants to be the first South African in history to win the same title three times in the same division.

THE BOXING MANAGEMENT COMPANY OF DREAMS

With last week’s massive upset and historic win for South Africa’s Bernice “The Badger” Ferreira—becoming the first woman in African boxing history to become a unified world champion—it was also a milestone achievement for South African boxing management company NO DOUBT Management, led by director Colin Nathan.

NO DOUBT Management became the first boxing company and entity to win all the major sanctioning body belts: the IBO, IBF, WBO, WBA, WBC, and The Ring Magazine belt.

“It’s only starting to sink in now. Funny, but I have a bomber jacket with all the world title patches from the world titles I have won since I started NO DOUBT in July of 2018. I had a WBC world champion patch that I got when Tshepo Lefele won his WBC International mini-flyweight title in 2005. I have been waiting to stitch it on, and I finally did this week,” said Nathan.

“No one in the history of South African boxing has achieved and done this, so I usually never sit back and think, Colin, you have done well in your career, but this week I have.”

Nathan was grateful to his loyal team of people surrounding him.

“I have such good people around me—young coaches, whom I am grooming like Shannon Strydom, Shaun Ness, Arafat K**k, and Danny de Oliveira. Also, Bernie Pailman, who has been by Nathan’s side for 17 years, and the two of them have travelled the world.

“My business model has changed quite dramatically over the years. I don’t let my ego get in the way of making good business. Business should have no emotion—well, most of the time,” laughed Nathan.

“And my principle of putting the fighter first has not changed. They will always be the stars of the shows; we simply are part of the cast.”

History was made last weekend in State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and both Ferreira and the people associated with NO DOUBT Management need to relish what was achieved last week.
