Let's take a bit of a deep dive into the technology that goes into the spools of the Shimano Curado line-up of reels, and then you can decide the answer.
MGL Spool III:
It's all about the pursuit of low inertia. The latest MGL Spool III features a narrow shape design with a wall width of 19mm that reduces inertia by about 15% compared to the previous MGL Spool II which had a wall width of 22mm.
A low-inertia spool enables a rapid acceleration of rotation, allowing anglers to cast long distances swiftly and with less effort.
SILENTTUNE:
When casting, a higher spool rotation speed leads to increased vibrations, which in turn raises the likelihood of noise generation.
Shimano's innovative SILENT TUNE mechanism incorporates O-rings strategically located on both the inner and outer circumferences of the spool bearings. This design enhances the fit between the shaft and frame, effectively minimizing any rattling of the bearings.
As a result, the mechanism eliminates rotational loss in the spool, providing a remarkably quiet experience along with smooth, fluid rotation. It adeptly suppresses even the slightest vibrations, delivering an exhilarating casting sensation that elevates your overall fishing performance.
SUPER FREE SPOOL:
Super Free Spool eliminates friction on the spool shaft during the cast.
Standard baitcasting reels are constructed in a way that when the clutch bar is disengaged, the pinion gear if freed and drags on the spool shaft. This creates friction and vibration leading to poor casting performance.
Reels fitted with SUPER FREE SPOOL are constructed in a way that the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing. This allows the pinion gear and spool shaft to stay in perfect alignment when the clutch bar is disengaged, preventing zero friction and enhancing casting performance.
