They say all good things come to an end, sadly so has our dojo. Last night was another affirmation of our BRS Karate family when past and present students and parents came to close our dojo's door.
BSR Karate has always raised their hands and gotten involved. From hosting year-end functions, having a yearly team at the soapbox Derby, demonstrations at clubhouse functions, potjie kos competitions (for which we still hold the trophy), Daleside dojo, and the spring gasshuku, many competitions, and even more medals. BSR is not going to be the same without karateka walking, cycling, and riding to karate in their gis.
Thank you to our amazing parents, past and present, and our beautiful talented students. Our Karate family will always be a part of us.

'Dan Grades'..... All too often you hear people say 'I'm due' this year/next year/whatever year. No you're not 'due' anything. You may then become eligible because the minimum time requirement has passed, but that is only a small part of what makes someone worthy of being promoted. Ask yourself, what have you learned since you were last promoted? How has your karate improved? How have you helped others improve and isnspired them? How has your understanding of karate expanded and developed? (And that of your students?) What new ideas have you taken on board? and equally as important what outdated concepts have you discarded? How have you promoted karate and upheld the true spirit of karate while evolving with society and modern times? If you have been just doing the same thing week in week out, as you were before, then how do you justify progression? Time elapsed since last the grade should not mean an automatic right to promotion. You have to be giving back more than you take out, while still developing and continuing on your own journey, changing and adapting, moving forward, not stood still.
