After yesterday’s racing, S/Y Factorial is sitting in 4th place at the Lipton Challenge Cup 2026… and this thing is turning into an absolute nail-biter.

There is barely any room to breathe out there.

One good race can change everything.
One mistake can cost you badly.
Every start matters.
Every tactical call matters.
Every single point matters. 👀

And our boys are doing exactly what we hoped they would do:

Climbing.

Steadily. Patiently. Race by race.

Now there is just this afternoon and tomorrow left of the Lipton Challenge Cup 2026, and we are right in the thick of it. 🏆

The pressure is building.

The margins are getting smaller.

And S/Y Factorial is getting closer.

This is exactly what high-performance teams are about — staying calm under pressure, communicating clearly, trusting the people around you and continuing to execute when things get tight.

Sounds a lot like business too. 😉

That is why Factorial belongs on this boat.

Better systems.

LIPTON CHALLENGE CUP 2026 — THAT’S A WRAP ⛵🏆

Ten races. Seventeen clubs. And a good couple of days in the beautiful City of Cape Town. And a Knysna crew that went toe-to-toe with the best sailors in the country.

Let’s start with the highlight: our crew won a race at the Lipton Challenge Cup. 🥇
And not just any race. Race 9 which was the big-breeze one — 20+ knots and higher gusts. Knysna led the race and crossed the line first. Wire to wire, in the toughest conditions of the regatta, with the entire national fleet chasing us down.

It wasn’t all smooth. A DSQ in Race 6 hurt in an event with no discards — no throwing out your worst day, no second chances. And in the final race our kite went in the water at the bottom mark and the places went with it. That’s Lipton. It asks everything of you and forgives nothing.

KYC finished 10th out of 17.

We came, we participated hard, we took it seriously, and we learnt some costly lessons. It took guts, it took determination, and we’re proud that we were there, and grateful for every bit of support that got us onto that start line.

To Hermanus Yacht Club — worthy champions, defending the Cup in an extraordinary final-race duel, and an overall spectacular event.

To Royal Cape Yacht Club for hosting us, to Lipton Challenge CUP for another outstanding year of racing on this historic trophy.

A special mention to our team manager Leon van Niekerk — first one up every morning, on the water all day, handing out medicine, cleaning water bottles, and making sure our team were looked after from start to finish. Campaigns like this run on people like Leon.

To all the organizers and volunteers, especially Kerry Pryde at RCYC, the Race Committee, and Richard Crockett for the consistent commentary, events of this quality don’t happen by accident and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you!

To our team, Greg, Yogi and Paul — you showed up, you sailed your hearts out every single day, and you held your heads high. We’re proud of you.

Challenge Cup

We’re half way through the Lipton Challenge Cup. Here’s a breakdown of the current standings…

Yesterday gave us some proper Lipton Cup action, and S/Y Factorial came out swinging.

Our boys started the day sitting in 11th place.

They finished it in 5th. 👀

That is six places gained in one day, with two more days of racing still to come.

And these photos pretty much tell the story.

Bodies moving.
Sails changing.
Decisions happening in seconds.
Everyone doing their job while the boat is moving underneath them.

Nothing about this kind of racing is passive. You are constantly reading the conditions, communicating, adjusting and trusting the people around you.

Which, funnily enough, is exactly why Factorial fits this campaign so well.

High-performing teams work better when everyone knows what is happening, information is where it should be, and the system behind the people actually helps them perform. 🚀

LIPTON CHALLENGE CUP — DAY 1 ⛵🏆

11th. 5th. 3rd.
That’s the shape of our day, and it tells the story better than we could.

Race 1 didn’t go our way — we were over the line at the start, had to take a penalty, and at this level of racing you don’t claw that back easily. Costly, but part of the game when you’re on a start line with the best in the country.

Race 2 was the comeback. The team was right up there with a nailbiting fight for first when the mark didn’t go our way which cost us time and the places that went with it. Frustrating, but the pace was there for everyone to see.

Race 3 was our best of the day — a 3rd that showed exactly what this crew is capable of when it all comes together.

KYC sits 5th overall after three races, in a fleet of 17 clubs from across South Africa and Namibia. Remember, there are no discards at Lipton — every result counts — so those improving numbers matter.

Spirits on the boat are high. As the team keeps saying: we didn’t come for second place. We’re in it to win it. 🇿🇦

Tomorrow will be better. But we’re proud of today.

The Lipton Challenge Cup 2026 is here, and Knysna Yacht Club’s S/Y Factorial is coming to Cape Town with one goal:

Hermanus Yacht Club arrives as the defending club, but this is Lipton... and nothing is given.

Five days.
Up to ten races.
Three compulsory courses.
No discards.

Every result counts. Every mistake stays on the scoreboard. Every metre can matter.

And when a regatta rewards consistency, experience becomes a serious weapon. 👀

Our crew has plenty of it.

At the heart of the team is Greg Davis... the most successful skipper in Lipton Challenge Cup history, with an incredible 14 titles to his name. Alongside Yogi Divaris and Paul Allardice, Knysna Yacht Club has a crew that knows exactly what this event demands.

Cool heads.
Sharp decisions.
