Dogs on leads welcome.
Park at Wild Side.
There is no chosen charity for August since I was not able to attend any walks however, anyone that would like to donate something, non-perishable foods (rice, pasta, soya mince, tins etc), feel free to bring along and I will deliver it to Myrna who was our July recipient with a soup kitchen she runs from home.
This is a short and sweet walk of just 4km, but I figured a good start after a rough August ๐

As we step onto the dormant tracks, the misty veil whispers secrets of the past. The Knysna Train Bridge Circular walk beckons us to follow its rhythmic path, sleeper by sleeper, across the shimmering lagoon. Fishing lines cast their hopes, while cormorants bask in the sun's warm embrace.
As we cross into the unknown, the mist parts, revealing the hidden beauty of Knysna. Fynbos whispers secrets, Bitou bushes shine like golden beacons, and the abandoned track leads us on a journey through time.
The sun breaks through, casting its golden light upon the forgotten signs and traces of the legendary Knysna Choe Tjoe route. We walk in awe, our footsteps echoing the heartbeat of the past.
The final stretch unfolds, revealing the misty bridge now gleaming with pride, a testament to our 14km journey. We're reminded of the magic that surrounds us, the beauty that lies hidden, waiting to be discovered.
Let's Walk Knysna invites you to join us on this enchanting journey, to experience the secrets, beauty, and wonder that await us all.
Let's Walk Knysna is a community initiative bringing like-minded people together. We walk for fun but with a cause, raising funds for different charities each month.
All ages, all races, 2 legged and 4 legged, we welcome anyone keen to walk with us.
Donations in either cash or select items are accepted at the start of each walk. They are completely voluntary and at your own discretion.
At the end of the month the donations are gifted to the chosen charity.

*Our July charity recipent*
In the heart of Keurhoek, Rheenendal, a remarkable woman named Merna has dedicated herself, her time and personal finances to nourishing the bodies and souls of her community's children.
With unwavering compassion and generosity, she has been providing meals to kids aged 3-18, three to four times a week, for the past two years. Her humble kitchen has become a beacon of hope, serving up warm bread, soup, breyani, and more, all made possible by her tireless efforts and the parcels she receives.
Merna's selflessness is a testament to the power of kindness, and her daughter Lorencia, Miss Pearl 2024, is following in her footsteps, aspiring to become a nurse and midwife and continue her mother's legacy of care.
*Let's Walk Knysna* is honored to support Merna's soup kitchen, and we invite you to join us in celebrating this extraordinary woman by contributing cash donations, food items, pots, plates, and treats for the children.

We meet and park behind Astron in Waterfront drive. Then make our way along the N2 towards the White Bridge, turnoff towards Belvedere, then to Brenton on Sea along the abandoned train track and then making our way back across the Knysna Estuary along the train bridge.
*** *The timing of this walk is to be on the main train bridge just before sunset allowing us a planned stop to enjoy the views of the sunset over the water and hopefully capture some exquisite photos.*
๐ There will also be a full moon rising just after midday which should mean ample light after sunset to make our way back to the cars.
I'm busy finalising details on the chosen charity project for July and will share details shortly.
Let's make July a GREAT walking month in support of a good cause.

Some info on the well-known train bridge over the Knysna Estuary.
The train track and bridge over the Knysna estuary were built in the late 1920s as part of the George-Knysna railway line.
- The railway was opened for goods and passenger traffic in May 1928.
- The ceremonial opening by the Hon. C.W. Malan, Minister of Railways and Harbours, took place on October 17th, 1928.
- The train track and bridge were built to connect the towns of George and Knysna in the Western Cape, South Africa.
- The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train operated on this route from 1920 to 2006.
- The train was pulled by a historic steam engine and offered scenic views of the coastline and surrounding mountains.
- The line was damaged by heavy flooding in 2006, and the train service was suspended.
Join us for beautiful walk starting at the Knysna Train Station, crossing the train bridge, along the Estaury past Brenton on Lake, Belvidere and back along the N2 waterfront drive.
As always, these walks are fun, free and for anyone keen to join.
We choose to walk with purpose and raise funds to support a different charity each month.
Donations are voluntary and at your discretion.
